1 more JACK question

With a totally flat tire how high would the frame be off of the ground?( approx)
I'm looking at a two ton sissors jack that starts at 5.5 inches. Will that fit under the frame? It looks close. I'm asking because I do not feel like "buying & trying". I returned two jacks so far for various reasons. Thanks, Frank

Measure the sidewall of your tires, take that number and subtract it from whatever measurements you now have from the ground to the frame. Plus~minus an inch or two in case I’m wrong…

Frank:

I measured my frame in a few places. It's about 6-1/2" at the lowest point behind the front wheels and varies up to about 8-1/2" near the rear. I would guess that your 5-1/2" sissors jack should then work.

Is that with a deflated tire? I deducted the sidewall and it looks borderline close. I bought a 1.5 ton sissors today. It starts about 3+ inches. The height was fine but the jack was crapola. It had a small crank with no leverage. I was getting a hernia trying to crank the jack and my back was giving me the finger. The two ton has a better, longer crank bar. I might buy it(from www.northerntool.com ) . It is returnable w/ no questions asked. Thanks, Frank

Frank:

Sorry about that....dummy me was obviously doing the measuring with inflated tires.....duh! Anyway, my compressed sidewall heights are a little more than 2-1/2" to the very outside of the rims of the wheels, front and rear. Thus, you could subtract this from the numbers I gave you earlier. That should be close.

Any input on trolly jacks. I never used one. They weigh about 28lbs shipped. Have a low clearance of 3.5 inches. It is a little larger than I would like to carry. Model model # Torin T815005L

Question Sorry you lost me on this one

If you are out on the road and get a flat. You now have a jack to lift the SSR and remove the wheel. Then what?? You have no spare. You only have 3 wheels on your SSR so you can't drive anywhere to get it fixed. If you leave the SSR on the jack and take the wheel to get it fixed in another vehicle there is a good chance that someone will steal the jack when you are gone.

I have a spare, a lug wrench, and now I'm shopping for a compact, light weight, quality jack. A floor jack will fit under the frame if the tire is totally flat.

The Sears trolly is heavier.Weighs about 30lb. However it works and I feel it is safer. You have the lug wrench?
