Assuming that you are using the P245/60R17 tire on a Chevy Trailblazer or comparable wheel with a 6 lug on 5" circle pattern, then this tire size looks like a pretty good compromise size to be used as a spare for either the front or rear.

This P245/60R17 tire has a theoretical O.D. of 28.57", which compares to 28.04" for the stock P255/45R19 front tire and 29.29" for the stock P295/40R20 rear tire. Use of this size spare tire results in a 1.9% oversize on the front and a 2.4% undersize on the rear. Both certainly acceptable, particularly for spare tire usage.
