I had the foam insulators installed last week. The noise level in the cab has reduced drastically.[Bulletin No.05-08-58-002 (Covers '03 to '05, already installed in '06's)-Subject-Road Noise in vehicle cab. May be caused by a the pressure relief valve allowing road noise to enter the cab. Correction- install a foam insulator "part #15777315" in front of the left and right pressure relief valve behind the panel in the rear fender well.]
If your truck is out of warranty, the parts are not expensive( Mike Byers said they are $13.97 each plus shipping). But the install would be expensive. It is a do it your self project that requires removing the rear wheels and the inner fender liner to get to the pressure relief valves on the back of the cab.
Also had the Alternator replaced (Bullnetin No. 04-06-01-031A) with the new one with the Pulley Clutch, no more chirp when transmission shifts.

Jack......Are you talking about the "wind" noise from the top area on both sides????.....Warranty item, huh??
Yep, that's an old bulletin that has been mentioned in numerous threads. I had forgotten to get this installed while still in warranty, but called my locol dealership and they said they would put it in for me despite being a couple months past 36.
I'm thinking I could get a spray can of 3M undercoating/sound deadener and beg the service mgr. to have the tech load up the inner fender with this glop while installing the factory item. That should cut back the noise even more.
On the other hand, maybe it would be better to just observe the tech do the installation to see how things come apart so I can do my own additional sound deadening at my leisure. I really like the Quiet Car product. Wish I could find a tiny gnome or lepricuan to paint this stuff all over the roof down containment area for me.

Does anybody have pictures of what this form insulator looks like as well as pictures of the area around the rear wheel well without the inner fender on?
Thanks

I just heard about this from my source. I will check into it, because when my top is up the noise in the cab of the truck is loud enough that when I use my bluetooth, people are always asking me if I have the window down.

thanks for info, the dealer is currently doing mine under warranty, also there was a metal clanking sound just when i got going in 1st gear, they are installing a new drive shaft
I am having a metal snapping noise when I go in reverse and loud clunks in the driveline when decelerating and accelerating, did you have similar symptoms?

Need help I have the insulators and pulled the wheel and fender liner out. I can see the vent between the body and cab not much room up there. Does the insulator just stick to the vent or the body??? It has a sticky side and a spong side that will just fit between everything.
Just had my 04 done and the noise reduction is dramatic. There is virtually no road noise from the rear tires, I can easily use my BlueTooth and have turned down the radio.
The only possible negative, for some, is I can now hear my wifes every word but whats even worse is that she now knows I can her her every word. So you may want to factor that into the decision.
Have you considered borrowing some of Focks' Duck Tape? I don't need it, I just remove my hearing aids, but be careful, that can have long range results, especially if you don't want to go on an involintary, extended diet. I guess that is why everyone asks what my secret for staying slender. Now you know, I can't keep my mouth shut either.

What so special about this GM #15777315 foam?
Can't we just look around for something similar at the hardware store or for some type of foam that came from a big package.

It is probably allows higher velocity airflow with a large noise dampening rating. I am sure you can duct tape just about any kind of foam in there to decrease the noise level, but you need to think about things like what happens if it catches fire. Will it release toxic gas, or burn hot enough to catch something else on fire that normally wouldn't. The engineering is worth the 13 bucks.
I took a peak now and then when my service tech was inatalling mine. He had some problems with the adhesive backing sticking to the inner fender wall before he could get it all the way into position. The foam sticks to the fender, not to the air valve (in reply to a question earlier in this thread); at least that was his interpretation of the directions. The noise reduction was apparent but not dramatic for me, but I have some hearing loss.
There are about ten fasteners holding the inner fender liner in place. I was in and out in just under an hour and the wizzards of warranty flat rates allowed 0.4 hours.

Thanks for answering my questions. I was out most of the day on the Harleys with the wife so I'll finish it up tomorrow morning when it's cool.

It's a little bit of work to pull the inner fenders out to clean the dirt you see but I guess I could make the effort
With 5 vehicles to keep clean that's 1 place I don't think I need to worry about
I just traded yesterday for a clean one because the old one had a screw in the front tire.
