My service writer told me that I'd need the 30,000 mile service done the next time I get my oil changed. I thought, 'okay, no big deal' until he told me it was going to cost $815! Has anyone else had this service done that can give me some advice? I'm wanting to know what all absolutely NEEDS to be done and what can I bypass? Here's what's covered under their service:
Engine and Oil Filter Service
Tire Rotation & Balance
Courtesy Brake Inspection
Perform Computerized 4-Wheel Alignment
Perform Fuel/Air Induction Service
Perform Fuel Injection Service
Replace Air Cleaner Element
Battery Service
Power Steering Flush Service
Transmission Flush Service
Coolant Flush Service
Lubricate Chassis (where necessary)
Top Off Fluids
Inspect Belts, Hoses, Tires and Tire Pressure
Mulit-Point Vehicle Inspection
Rear Differential Service
Replace Fuel Filter
Courtesy Vehicle Wash
I know that they can't "rotate" the tires...but is there anything else that they can't do??

Maintenance Footnotes
(a) Visually inspect brake lines and hoses for proper hook-up, binding, leaks, cracks, chafing, etc. Inspect disc brake pads for wear and rotors for surface condition. Inspect other brake parts, including calipers, parking brake, etc.
(b) Visually inspect front and rear suspension and steering system for damaged, loose, or missing parts or signs of wear. Inspect power steering lines and hoses for proper hook-up, binding, leaks, cracks, chafing, etc.
(c) Visually inspect hoses and have them replaced if they are cracked, swollen, or deteriorated. Inspect all pipes, fittings, and clamps; replace with genuine GM parts as needed. To help ensure proper operation, a pressure test of the cooling system and pressure cap and cleaning the outside of the radiator and air conditioning condenser is recommended at least once a year.
(d) Visually inspect wiper blades for wear or cracking. Replace wiper blades that appear worn or damaged or that streak or miss areas of the windshield.
(e) Make sure the safety belt reminder light and all your belts, buckles, latch plates, retractors, and anchorages are working properly. Look for any other loose or damaged safety belt system parts. If you see anything that might keep a safety belt system from doing its job, have it repaired. Have any torn or frayed safety belts replaced. Also look for any opened or broken airbag coverings, and have them repaired or replaced. The airbag system does not need regular maintenance.
(f) Lubricate all key lock cylinders, all body door and fuel door hinges, latches and locks, including glove box and console doors, hood assembly, secondary latch, pivots, spring anchor, release pawl, and any moving seat hardware. More frequent lubrication may be required when exposed to a corrosive environment. Applying silicone grease on weatherstrips with a clean cloth will make them last longer, seal better, and not stick or squeak.
(g) A fluid loss in any vehicle system could indicate a problem. Have the system inspected and repaired and the fluid level checked. Add fluid if needed.
(h) Change automatic transmission fluid and filter if the vehicle is mainly driven under one or more of these conditions:
• In heavy city traffic where the outside temperature regularly reaches 90°F (32°C) or higher.
• In hilly or mountainous terrain.
• When doing frequent trailer towing.
• Uses such as found in taxi, police, or delivery service.
(i) Drain, flush, and refill cooling system. This service can be complex; you should have your dealer perform this service. See Engine Coolant for what to use. Inspect hoses. Clean radiator, condenser, pressure cap, and filler neck. Pressure test the cooling system and pressure cap.
(j) If you drive regularly under dusty conditions, inspect the filter at each engine oil change.
(k) Visually inspect belt for fraying, excessive cracks, or obvious damage. Replace belt if necessary.
My point is GM say only to look at the level and not to drain and refill the
Coolant& trans untill 100K unless you fall under one of the condition in the foot notes

Sounds like they just went down the list on all the services they offer (I am a service writer). It's very unethical to suggest something like that at that mileage.
However, at 30k, if you're in it for the long haul, a trans flush and rear end service is a good idea. 50k for a coolant flush and brake flush.
The fuel injector cleaning/throttle body/induction service should be done once a year for ALL vehicles, but it's very expensive unfortunately.
Alignment? if the tires are wearing good (turn the wheel all the way to the left and get out and look at how the tire is wearing, run your hand across the tire side to side, front to back, along each edge) then it doesn't need it.
A battery service isn't needed, unles you have a science project growing on your battery (very unlikely on these vehicles).
Am I confused?? The manual says this should be done at 25,000 mi and then again at 50,000. I can't find any mention of 30,000mi scheduled maintainence.
Had the 30,000 mile done, which was primarily the fuel injector system. Also asked that they do the trans filter/fluid change, had the oil/filter change, and ended up out the door at just over $400. Had the same service done on the Chrysler 300, and the tab was just over $700! As I told the service writer - that's a damned expensive car wash - feels kinda like I got hosed too!!

Thanks for all of your stories and suggestions. I just didn't want to get taken to the cleaners because I know nothing about this type of maintenance. I've got about 3 months before I have to get it done, so keep the stories comin, I need all the help I can get!!!
A thousand thank you's for the service suggestion.

30K check for $800? WOW
I will admit - in preparation for our trip to Maggie Valley, I had a complete check done at the 40K mile mark, and insisted on transmission line flush. There was a hiccup with a line vibrating lose, which caused a vacuum issue, but that was easily and quickly fixed. I don't recall it costing even 1/2 what you were quoted for your 30K check.
We had peace of mind on the 8-hour trip down to Maggie Valley that the oil, water, fuel line, hydraulics, etc were all in good working order. (We also now have a reputable dealer we go to for service, based on a good reference from another Fanatic.)
We are going to have the a/c checked out soon, as cooling is not at an optimum.
