Have fun!
Shop I used can't seem to find any American Axle 4:56 for a 6 speed

Saw a post on another thread that they stopped making the 4.56 for the 14 bolt.

Called J&S Gear 2 weeks ago and was told American Axel no longer makes the 456 for the 6 speed. I did not think to ask about the auto.

Still want to join the club. If American Axle no longer builds a gear set, and the Strange gearset is for Auto only, can anyone supply a name and part number for a grear set known to fit a 6 speed SSR??

Flassh others do still make it. I have just heard they where not as quit. I suspect for the most part it is the setup to blame.

I have the Motive gear in mine but gear noise transmitted thru the drive shaft with the top up is very annoying. top down not big deal..

Set up is part of the deal. The other part is the way the gears are cut. Since Am Axle is OEM for GM they have a quieter gear cut too. I forget the exact terminology.

OK - latest after spending way too much time on the phone this morning.

It appears American Axle 4:56 gears are out of stock everywhere.

J & S confirmed that this morning. Talked to a supplier in Canada who recommended Quality Gear - don't know anything about them.

Made several calls to local shops for a recommendation on the best shop to handle the install hoping for more info. That steered me to a supplier in Washington selling Yukon Gear. He indicates he has done several installs in the northwest, but I can't find anyone on the threads mentioning they have Yukon gears on a 6 speed.

Anyone with any feedback on Yukon - it may be the best alternative at this stage.

The only info I found on a search were a comment from Art that Yukon was a good supplier, and one from AKwares running Yukon 4:56 gears on an 03 auto.

Two of the suppliers indicated the Richmond gearset wa quite noisy.

UPDATE - Just got off the phone with ANOTHER supplier - he has nothing to offer in a way of 4:56 gears, but says the Yukon gearset is not built in the US - it is a Korean gearset imported by Yukon.

This is very confusing for a novice.

This is a very difficult club to join.

Ray, another option is Strange gears. Another member seems happy with their hardware..

See you soon.

Got an email reply from Strange this morning - their gearset fits the automatic only.

Still looking - seems a set of 4:10s is the only viable option.

I guess this explains why American Axle won't be suppling us with the 4.56 gears any longer:

Doesn't sound like we should keep our hopes up that they will build another run.

Other than gears, air filter & programmer my drive-train is stock.
If the others report their extras I'll put it in the list.
