Coming home last night I got on it a bit, hitting a bit over a 100, the TC light comes on and I back off.
So I am wondering what the relationship might be?
It MIGHT be this (JUST a theory):
The SSR is programmed to include a speed limiter at around 125 to 130 mph, since the factory tires are only rated to that speed. The system PROBABLY uses the same method to stop you from going faster as it uses to activate the traction control when it detects tire spin.
IF this is so (remember, it's only a thoery), then 4.56 gearing would activate it much sooner, at about 373/456 x 127 mph = 104 mph plus or minus a bit.
I got the AmerAxle [OEM?] gears from a connect thru Mikeyram (& Waysouth6speed) and took them over to Phoenix Transmissions to let Greg Ducato and his excellent team install them, the servo and a new stall converter. WOW - she runs like a different truck, kind of like she was running in sand before.
Can't say enough about the folks @ Phoenix. They got the entire build done in one day! And Greg was nice enough to let me and my son take his re-built Aspen wagon for the day, a very cool ride. The boy had never seen an 8 track before. Thanks again to Mark, William and Greg for all their efforts.
Now to get her home and park her for a few days so I can get the PCM to PA for the tune and calibrations. Then onto the next mod........but probably new rear tires first. Brings a whole new meaning to "smoke 'em if you got 'em"

Doug, we enjoyed meeting you and your son and working on your SSR. Once you get the tune sorted out you will be even more thrilled with the performance.
I'M PARTIALLY IN!!!!! my wife bought me a set for christmas but the guy that will install them cant do it till next week......hope the wet roads dry up next week
My SSR: 05 Blur,#20875,Diablo,K&N,wnd sprssr,Eibach,chin spoilr,rockrs,stripes,blu dots
4.56 gears
Now the ultimate question.....Where do i get these replacement gears?
From previous posts, it appears AAM makes it for auto so I went to American Axle site and there's 135 listings for 4.56(aaaah), anyone have the part number by chance?

Two questions - 1 sort of a repeat
Hi,
I have read threads on this topic with interest plus Jim G's book. Two questions come to mind: Please don't jump on me for the first one:
1) is it possible that changing the gears would have an impact on re-sale, given that it is not stock. I know that many owners plan to keep the truck for life, but I will need to sell one, and more if I ever find an 06 Blur at the right time.
2) does anyone know of a supplier in Canada, prefer Western Canada that can provide the correct parts numbers etc. I could get Westers tune in Tilley to do the work, just need to know the specifics on parts.

GARY'S 04 has a couple of sets and hes kinda close to you....very informative person and he installs ...might be worth checking out in "parts for sale" he recommends the motive brand of gears, but the ones he has are for 6-speed
Hi,
1) is it possible that changing the gears would have an impact on re-sale, given that it is not stock. I know that many owners plan to keep the truck for life, but I will need to sell one, and more if I ever find an 06 Blur at the right time.
The vast majority of potential buyers would not ever realzie the gearing was not stock. They would just say "hey, this one seems very responsive compared to the others I have drvien".
Any potential buyer astute enough to spot the 4.56 vs 3.73 gearing via speedometer vesus tachometer reading, would understand the massive benefit he is getting.
Any Fanatic would say "hey this saves me $800 in parts and labor, because everyone knows these vehicles need stiffer gearing than the factory installs".
I cannot see a negative scenario, unless you are thinking the ultimate long shot: that your specific SSR is going to end up someday in the future in concours competition. If so, I respectfully suggest that non-stock gearing is likely to be the least of any restoration concerns.
I really wouldn't sweat this. Once you have tried either 4.10 or 4.56, you will not want to stay with 3.73.
i'm finally in.......went with motive 4:56, it seems alot more responsive but it is very noisy my installer said he quit using motive because of noise problems w/ the last few mustangs he did gear changes on........wish he'd told me that before i bought them, but i'll change the muffler to drown it out or keep the top down............

oh by the way............WOW what a difference
Make sure to ask the installer if he added posi lube when he did the swap. Without it, you'll hear a pronounced growl.
yes he did, he said he only uses synthetic gear oil also on lower gears like that.......he did say he was surprised to see an open carrier instead of posi.....said he would work with me if i wanted to put a posi unit in he wouldnt charge to change the gears if i wanted to try another brand to quiet it down
