Has anyone changed their SSR over to a 4 wheel drive or would anyone want to, A friend that works at a GM dealer want to change mine, Not that I would go 4 wheeling but it wouldn't blow the tires off ever time you hit the gas with the all wheel traction
Good question DOOPHUS but then again the SSR carries it weight so elegantly, I wish the SSR was about 1500 lbs. lighter, Mine is 5080 lbs. ready to run I mean drive so what will a few more pounds hurt
some posts that 'some' of the necessary items are already in the SSR, but I haven't heard of anyone doing it yet.....
WOW FCTR
Yes the SSR is set up for all wheel drive, If you ever seen the engine out of one you would see all the mounts and even a 4X4 oil pan
The difference in the traction with the AWD and 2WD TrailBlazer SS is breathtaking. It would be a great change to make an SSR AWD with all the TrailBlazer SS parts. It only adds about 200 pounds and the thing will launch like a slingshot.

That's exactly what my "FULL FIGURED DATE" said the other night!

That really sounds good and he said he has all the parts to do it and maybe put some good 18's all way around, Would Look good with 4 18'' BFG drag radials front and back for the track, Look good to smoking all 4 wheels, I just wonder how much power the TrailBlazer front drive unit will take before it breaks

Then why is a "stock" LS2 SSR quicker than a TBSS?
I've spent a lot of time looking under my truck...
the hard part would probably be fitting the components under the body, I dont know what the differences between the two trucks are but it looks to me like the transfer case front diff and driveline would be hard to fit
Stock for Stock an SSR and 2WD TBSS are about the same.
According to what I've seen the SSR is about 2 tenths quicker than a TBSS (1/4m)
The AWD is a bit slower yet. My point was someone was touting the AWD as a better straight line performer, I believe.
Meant to do this earlier, For the ones that have just seen the top of a SSR engine as you can see it has mount and hole through oil pan for AWD, Not many would pull a engine just to show someone

Double L...you're awesome. For comparison I'll give you the following. Have a Typhoon with AWD and just sold a Blazer with the same 4.3 but supercharged 2 WD. The launch between the 2, 0-60 was night and day. The Typhoon leaps off the ground and goes (of course alot has to do with differences in weight). Just the opposite with the 2WD Blazer...alot of wheel spinning action unless I hit the RPM just right...but either way the Typhoon launches much better. As you know I'm pushing nitrious out of my SSR but I don't have it come on until 3000, almost perfect in my eyes. I would think an AWD SSR supercharged with gears would launch much much better. Just don't have the inclination to AWD mine yet.

Well now the Typhone is a hole diff. animal, I might do the 4 wheel drive after I make a few runs or try to, The SSR just blows the rear tires off, I have had mine smoke the tires going into 3rd. gear, Either I find some tires or I will have to go 4X4 to be safe, The BFG KDW's seem like they were better than the stock tires but after a few runs they harden up and they are a joke, My brother lives in Shreveport, Works at the GM truck plant

Just moved to Shreveport. If you were to go AWD with the SSR what donor parts are you looking at? If you go the split Torque route those parts are available and your rear drive train would only receive 60% (I think) of the actual engine torque value and 40 to the front. The stress should be much less with a total weight increase of around 150 lbs or so. I would think that the local junk yard might have what is all required in one rolled and smashed donor vehicle. On another note I had planned on SC my truck but with the mods I have and the 125 shot of nitrous it runs just fine. Sure do like the sound of the S/C though. Might still do the S/C and drop the gas down to about 25 or 50.
