6.0TOGO's Running Board Mods

6.0TOGO had enough of the rubber turning white on his running boards, so he stripped it off and painted them solid black. The "hills and valleys" are in the running board, not the rubber, so when they're stripped they retain the factory look.

We decided to lower and move his running boards in, this gets them out of the way so you do not step on the painted surface. Also gives a sleeker look and brings the body line down.

Mine turned white and when I had it in for an oil changes about 5 months ago - the dealer ordered me new running boards and replaced them. I have been applying 303 on them.

Looks great but with the boards brought in closer to the body you may start to see more stone hits on the rear fender protectors you may want to consider front fender flaps just something to watch for

No, I've had mine done like this since 2004. It eliminates the gap between the body and the boards, less dirt, less road debris.

LONNIE-I AM EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH THE RESULT-THE RUBBER STEP PAD HAD BEEN AND WILL ALWAYS BE A PROBLEM MAINTANING-NOW THE CHANCES OF TOUCHING THEM WHEN GETTING IN/OUT IS MINIMAL....MAY EVENTUALLY GET THE MPD-1 LOWER TRIM PIECE-BUT FOR NOW THIS IS AN IMPROVEMENT....IN BOTH FUNCTION AND APPEARANCE....CHUCKSTR OH AND BY THE WAY LAUREN THANKS FOR POSTING THE PHOTOS FOR A SLOW LEARNER!!!!!!

I find that when it rains the residue remains and turns them white over and over. Have used 303 also, but it's not permanent.

Good choice for a change Chuck....looks fine.

P/P

Peace

Talking

Lookin' good! I'm glad to see that there is some texture under the running board rubber. I've been wanting Lonnie to tuck mine in but now I wanna lose that pesky, pain-in-the-azz rubber too. Good work gentlemen (and Lonnie).

I pulled the rubber off my 05 boards soon after I bought it and repainted the boards a gray to offset the silver. I never looked back on the decision. 6.0TOGO, you"ll like them much more not having to maintain them all the time.

Nice mod

Looks really, really clean Chuck. I've had "lonnie boards" for about 6 months now and they are great. And the all black look on your ride just makes them look even more custom.

Bet it was hard to keep him from painting those things flat black though!!!

I think it's cool and now you can get it in all kinds of colors. I just think it's a good permanent way to sub the rubber on the boards when they just give up. Of coarse not all colors would look right but the black & silver would go with our trucks and you can do it yourself...

Removing Rubber From Boards

Whats the procedure for removing the rubber? I want to paint over the silver edge and reuse the rubber.
