AC does not seem to be working right

My AC does not seem to be working right. In park or while at a stop light the compressor runs for about 35 to 45 second before going out but while driving no matter the speed it is cycling on and off every 8 to 10 second and that does not make the cab get as cold as I want it. I do have the round temp dial turned all the way to the left pass the blue dots and even if I turn on the recirculation air it still does not seem to get cold as I know other cars trucks get, can anyone give me some advice please on this.

Thanks

There is a thermistor at the A/C evaporator that monitors the temp and prevents the system from icing up by cycling the compressor off. That thermistor may be out of whack and need replacing. You may also have a freon level that is either too high or too low, causing "short cycling" of the compressor.

To complaints for the dealer to use key words on.....

1) Short cycling of the compressor

2) A/C not cold

Take it to a respected service department and have them do a little system diagnosis. Don't let them blow you off with a "that's the way they all are"... cuz it's not true. You will get a lot of cycling (but not as much as you have) on the system, but it should be making cold air.

My 2 cents....

Mike

Mine did the same

Took mine in for the same reason. AC cycles off and on. Not cold enough. They changed a switched in the dash based on a TSB. The AC works fine now. But now:

Burrying from A/C - GM states its normal

Let me know if yours comes out better.

HOLD THE CAN UP SIDE DOWN WHILE YOU HAVE THE MOTOR RUNNING , AN THE AIR CONDITIONER OPERATING ON MAX COOLING TILL THE CAN IS EMPTY. YOUR COMPRESSOR SHOULD CYCLE CORRECTLY NOW . That great if he's in fact low. However if it's a hardware problem he doesn't want to over service the system.

A/C not cold.

If you go the cheap way you will probibly over charge your system. I my memory
is correct the system only holds 12 oz. of Freon. I don't have the book book with me but I kind of remember that small amount as being odd compaired to older vehicles.
Just my .02 worth.

My a/c does the same thing. When I'm at a stop light or in a drive thru (usually Taco Bell or Taco Cabana or something with TACO in the name, hey it's San Antonio...I can't help it), it just completely stops working. Nothing but hot air.....the SSR.....not me. Hehe!! Although sometimes I am full of hot air! It may be all them tacos!

Took my SSR in today for the AC problem, they said they found a leak in a low pressure valve so they changed it and re-fill the unit. The air is colder for sure but the problem why I took it in for the first place is still there, AC cycles off and on too fast but this time when it cycles off it now stays off much longer than before. I have a friend in my area who has the same year and will try this weekend to drive his and compare the two and if not back to service on Monday.

Pressure

Does anyone know what the pressure reading should be on the low side and high side? Seems like you need to be "not too low" and "not too high", I'd like to know the range.

the low side and high side pressures will vary as the outside temp and humidity change. the low side should be some were from 30 to 45 psi and the high should be 140 to 225 psi. now these are just ball park figures and as I don't know what the ambient temp is, the lower the temps the lower the pressures
