AC/Heating Controls

I am trying to figure out what is normal for the dash lights and the manual isn't any help. Does the right control defroster light illuminate at night? Mine does. Is this normal? The rest of the dials light on the rim and on the setting but my defroster is bright gold no matter which vent setting.

And actually there are 2 defroster settings there.
The one to the far right turns on the defrost, turns the fan on high, and activates the defroster in the rear window.
The one to the left of that turns on the defroster, but you control the speed of the fan and whether the rear window defroster is on/off.

(Does anyone else have the problem when you are trying to remember what REALLY happens when you push this button or turn this knob, your brain fogs up and you can't clearly remember anything? I was just wondering.... )

WOW FCTR: As I discuss in my book, there is an explanation for this bizarre HVAC behavior.

That HVAC control system comes to the SSR from (place fanfare here . . .) an Italian car - an Alfa Romeo.

The British have a lock on bad electrical systems ("Lucas, the inventors of darkness"), but the Italians put excitement and unprecictability into EVERYTHING in their cars!

Thanks for the explaination.....

.....I have wondered about the same thing myself. Lots of little funky things to know and try to remember about these special trucks.

Hee hee! reminds me of our '70 E-type! Blasted wiring harness was joined together by stamped steel connectors (a really cheap and cheesy bullet connector splice block). These connectors would litterally crack and fall apart from the years of twisting, vibration, and corrosion. I figure that the vast majority of the electrical gremlins in our Jag were caused by these connectors. It was freak chance that I ever found it as all those bits of busted up metal were contained in a rubber sleeve.

no. I guess I like how it's supposed to work, not the issues it sometimes has.
