I have a stock (as far as I know) 2005 SSR. What is the consensus on the best air filter. A K&N $433 set up seems like overkill especially to my budget. A Fram filter from Walmart seems like the best deal.
I recently bought a reusable filter from Spectre out of Calf. It is pretty much the same as K&N [ I really don't think there is any difference except the color ] but the cost shipped was $32. Works
well and no problems with oiling the MAF sensor.
Take care with the overpriced overstated filters you must oil. No real performance benifit, Oil can cause MAF sensor problems, and expensive. Just get a good quality FRAM or WIX or equal and change it every 25,000 or so. I doubt you will be driving in a lot of dirt and dust. The filters you oil do not filter as much of the super fines as do quality paper or synthetic filters.
I'm using the stock filter set-up which i think is good but the way I see it, is the engine is basically a air pump, the quicker air moves in and out of an engine has to increase HP. The K&N is a little spendy but it does look cool.
