Air Leak in Stock Air Inlet Housing!!!!

Has anyone noticed any air filter sealing problems at the bottom of the air inlet housing?

I just replaced my stock air filter with a Fram Air Hog element and noticed an area at the bottom of the housing that deflects downward, allowing the filter frame flange to slip forward and off of the seal face of the box. I repeated the installation several times to insure the filter was positioned correctly with the same results. While the back plate has 5 tabs at the bottom that engages slots in the housing it does not limit this deflection. (I also noticed that the stock element was improperly seated in this area when I removed the back plate.)

This seems to me to be a really bad thing since air could by-pass the filter at the bottom, along with dirt/dust - right into the engine air intake! Unless I'm missing something here, this could lead to accelerated wear in our engines!

Comments??

Thumbs down Just one....

of many holes that the air box sucks hot air....
I sealed those two holes up by putting some of my left over dynamat on them. I put patches on the outside bottom and also on the inside. Sealed up my air box like the 05, 06's plus a little extra. Plug the hole with dynamat under the hood latch and a few more place's. I have seen no temp spikes while sitting idle like I did before...

Double check

I recently took my SSR in for the complimentary oil change and air filter. When getting home I double checked to see if they got any thing dirty and the screws for the air filter were dangling there. They did put in a new air filter but did not close the air box . That is the last time they will ever deal with my air box.

That rear face of the airbox has a pair of slotted clips as I recall, to retain it in place. It's possible yours was not installed correctly. Look carefully, with a flashlight in hand.
