Antifreeze,How Much

I bought a stainless steel upper radiator hose and have had nothing but problems. The end connections clamped on have come off three times while driving. Anyway I have replaced the stainless steel one with the original hose I took off. I have nothing but6 water In the radiator. I was told to run straight antifreeze In the radiator. What Im asking, Is that right or should there be a mixture of water and antifreeze?????

There should be a mixture. All water or all antifreeze will just about insure more issues. Most would say 50/50 is the best mix, though almost everything I've read over the years that made sense says most systems cool better if you use 60% water.

GM Dex Cool

You want to use GM Dex Cool. Wally World has Prestone GM Dex Cool for $13.50 a gallon. Use 50/50. System holds 14 quarts.

I think that what they might have meant was that with a properly diluted system, manufacturers normally state that the overflow tank should be "topped off" with straight coolant. I personally keep spare 50/50 mix and top off with that. Water flows better and conducts the heat off the metal better but coolant is needed to assist the water.

Things to think about:
Yes, 50/50 is good but you should never run more antifreeze than water.
Use DISTILLED water or you will have severe corrosion issues later.
Whatever you use, get one that's aluminum safe (silicate free), not all are.
It's best to mix water and coolant prior to pouring in engine.

Good luck
