Any permanent fix for driveshaft click?

Hi, I've had the driveshaft changed twice. The click when shifting from neutral to reverse or drive went away for a while. I brought it to a new dealer, this dealer said changing it only fixes it temporarily. So they won't change it because Chevy hasn't had a permanent fix. Under warranty. 04 model. I can't belive this BS. I'll bring it back to my other dealer.

There should be some upgrade on this!

Cack: The only REAL fix so far is a non-GM one that will cos you some money.

Order a metal matrix composite driveshaft from Dennis Reinhart (do a search for "MMC driveshaft" or "Dennis Reinhart" to find all the info which has been posyed here on this forum many times).

GM did NOT solve this before discontinuing production, and will certainly not do so now that the SSR is out of production.

I believe the click noise is the drive shaft flexing under pressure. I just got use to it even though a new vehicle shouldnt be making those type noises. I dont see how it can hurt anything but i just looked at the rear of my manual transmission and the seal must be leaking and it only has 8k miles on it. It isnt the donut type so i wonder why its leaking.

It's leaking because the clicking is actually a destructive release from dirveshaft windup, and when repeated many times over a period of time, must be destroying the tailshaft seal on the transmission (yes, I saw you have a manual versus autom, but both need a rear seal).

Like I said above, don't hold your breath for GM to solve this after they stopped building this vehicle model. Order one of Dennis Reinhart's driveshafts, or some other shaft that has also been proven in SSR service (none that I know of, at least yet). Yes, it will cost a few hundred dollars, but it is infintely less costly, anda lot less traumatic, than a post-warranty transmission repair.

As I say in my e-book, "The SSR Experience", the SSR is a factory-built street rod with a number of quirks. Better learn to live with it - or sell your SSR and get a Honda, where the reliability is notably superior, but also notably less exciting.
