Back up lights

i bought my SSR last thursday and realized the back up lights dont work
i checked the fuse, put in bulbs and still nothing

the sockets look rinkydink and kind of bad
is this a common problem. i searched this and couldnt find anything

any tips on fixing this. kind of aggrivating. i did find out i dont need back up lights to pass inspection in Tx so that is a relief

thanks for any help

i also looked for an introduce yourself thread or board, am i missing something
CJ

Maybe the transmission or shifer switch that indicates that it is in reverse is not adjusted properly, just a guess.

Hi CJ,

Welcome!

You can also see if the reverse lights come on when you use your FOB to unlock your SSR in "dark" area so that the SSR turns on the "Perimeter Lighting" (set via the Driver Information Center via the steering wheel controls - I believe it defaults to ON).

If you unlock your SSR using your FOB in a "dark" area, the perimeter lighting feature will turn on the headlights and the reverse lights to illuminate the surrounding area.

This test will at least show you if they work at all (independent of putting it into reverse gear).

You can confirm if your perimeter lighting feature is turned on by inserting your key into the ignition switch, turning it to the ON position. After the driver information center [D.I.C.] goes through its bootup logic, you should be able to push the top right button on the left side of the steering wheel until it displays "PERIMETER LIGHTING". Then press the lower right button on the left side of the steering wheel and it will show you the current value. If it is "OFF" then you can press the lower right button again and toggle it to "ON". Then run you light check test again. This setting defaults to "ON" so it should already be "ON" unless reset by a previous driver of this SSR.

I hope that helps diagnose your problem.

A simple two-wire electrical tester is a very good tool. Test to see if you have socket current, and visually inspect the wiring to the source. It is how I fixed my back-up light problem.
