Bed cover won't release.

I did a quick search, but couldn't find a similar post. When I was leaving the 2nd annual tech session at Doug's sat. I closed my bed cover on a box that was a hair too tall. When I try to open the cover, I can hear the solenoid working, it releases the driver side, but it won't release the passenger side (where the box is). I tried pressing down on the cover with almost my whole body weight while pushing the button, but it didn't work. I even did a couple clock wise donuts in a parking lot to try to get the box to slide over toward the driver side to no avail. Any suggestions? Secret release cable, away to unbolt the bed cover or tailgate? Any help would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!

Have you tried to manually release it?

Check your owner's manual, as it has all the information you'll need. It is good information of owners to know, but not others, which is why I do not offer more detailed instructions.

BBO is right about that so the best advice here is "Do not store the owners's manual in the back of the truck. I would also say that you need to push the very corner were the latch is when you try to release it if it is a very minimal excess height. If it is a bit bigger then you need to push down on the area of the box to remove the flex in the cover. Either way you might be adding some dents to the deck lid. Good luck

Where are you located? somoeone might be able to come and assist.

Thanks for the point in the right direction. I found the section in the owners manual. I'll try that when I get home. If I still have trouble, I'll give another shout. I'm in the 7th Street and Union Hills area, so I know there are a couple other fanatics in the area. Thanks again and I'll post how it goes!

Mine is in the back of the glove box standing up. You have to remove everything else to get it out, but if I need it it is there I tried to keep it in the console but the CDs take too much room.

I keep mine in the center console, would not fit in the glove box. Never thought about standing it up

I have a small (Kid size) backpack with emergency info, etc ... store behind the passenger seat. I should move it to behind the driver seat as I could never get to it on the other side without getting out and walking around.

Well, I got it open by using the manual release. After getting it open, I saw that my clockwise donuts did actually do what I wanted. The box had slid over to the drivers side. Which got me thinking, why didn't the cover release. So I closed the cover with nothing in the bed, hit the button again and it still didn't release on just the passenger side. So it looks like the latch probably needs a little adjusting. While looking for other posts on this problem, I saw a few posts from a while ago that addressed a solenoid tailgate release. I'm not sure if experts like Doug and engineer types like Mike in AZ think that is a good or bad idea? Just curious. Thanks again for all the help and offers of help!

latch may have gone bad

I had the same problem, but opposite latches. Driver's side latch doesn't work, passenger side does. Dealer couldn't adjust the latch, I have to replace it. Not cheap.

Test your latch

You can reach into the latch and toggle it, as if it had the lid come down. Then hit the release button..... both sides should snap open. If one side is not opening and the other is...... check for a bind in the cables between the actuator and the two latches. crawl under the back and look for yourself.... not a big deal.

Regards,

Mikey
