Cargo Compartment Liner

Does the standard cargo liner come out when you install the $1,000 Carpet Cargo Kit?

Yes. The tracks for the telescoping bar for the cargo net (upper side tracks) and the two outer tracks to accept bed floor bars are attached to the plastic bed liner, and the new ones are integrated into the carpet set. You'll need to remove four screws in each of the four tracks, plus tugging, twisting, pulling out of brackets, out from under sill at rear of bed, etc., but the plastic liner comes out in one piece after screws are removed. I had a problem with the screws in the original plastic liner being torqued to the point that the heads stripped when I tried to remove them, ended up drilling out the heads, making a mess, but eventually got everything out, and the carpet liner installed. The biggest hassle is the cargo cover liner w/light, requiring different harness (included with the kit) and installation of harness through double wall of bed. Another minor hassle is the power outlet at the rear of the bed. New outlet and wire accompanies the carpet kit. My wife and I installed this in her 04 in one afternoon, without a divorce!

Thanks blueeyes, I'm going to get the kit and try and install it myself. I think the carpet looks a lot better than the standard plastic liner. The carpet gives it a more custom look.

Hi,
Could you help with the part number/s for the cargo carpet kit.
My dealer has not be able to find them.
I did a search and couldn't determine if there is just one part number for the kit or a part number for each item.

Thanks,
Hugh

Cargo Carpet Kit

Hugh -

The kit you're referring to can be found on gmpartsdirect.com and is called the "bed liner package (carpet)" for $1,008 as opposed to $1,200 from most dealers. The part number is 17800225, and includes the bed liner carpet, the cargo cover (lid liner) carpet, the replacement power outlet for the rear of the bed, and the "Y" harness to connect to the light in the cover. This bed liner is "one-piece" in that the two bottom outside tracks for the tie-down mechanism, and the two side tracks for the telescoping bar/net/D-rings are all integrated into the carpet liner. Also, the front of the bed with the embroidered "SSR" logo is attached to the carpet. Note this kit does not include the bed strips. The bed strips can be ordered from gmpartsdirect.com also, I think for $121 -/+, and are available in sets in satin chrome, red oak, and body color. Let me know if I can help (other than buying the kit for you)!

Installing the carpet option

Just a few questions
  1. Once all the torx screws and plastic fasteners are removed, how do you get the old plastic liner out? Do you have to remove the bed cover to lift it out? I can't quite figure out how to get the front (next to the cab) past the lift support hinges other than bowing it severly toward the tail gate. Does that sound about right?
  2. I haven't bought the bed strips yet, but how are they attached to the carpeting? Should they be installed prior to installing the carpeting?
  3. Any other hints or recommendations before I give it a try?
Thanks!

Did you ever get a reply as I'm about to do the same thing. From the Big Blue manual I do know you need to remove the bed lid (have at least two people for this and the bed liner removal). But the carpet installation and the bed wood strip installation (how are they fastened is still the mystery.

Cargo Compartment Liner

Never got a reply, so I relied on a couple of local SSR owners for advise and help. After removing the lid, and all the bolts holding in the old plastic liner, I decided to cut the plastic liner aorond the lid bracket (only the plastic nearest the cab of my SSR. This allowed me to remove the plastic liner as I had no more need of it. The carpet liner slides in and is fastenten to the floor of the bed along the two metal mounting rails. The sides are mounted using the cross rail bars and their torx bolts. The remaining spots are held in using the plastic fasteners that were taken out when the plastic bed liner was removed (from the cab and tailgate areas). As for the bed strips, they are held on by velcro (loop is sewn in to the carpeted bed liner and the hook comes adhered to the back of the strips). This is a short version of how I replaced my liner, I do not have the lid liner yet, but I am looking if anyone has one for sale:. If you have any questions, I'll be glad to walk/talk you through my experience and help in any way.

Just got the lid liner (w/light) and shouldn't take maybe an hour to get-er-done. The wiring harness is the challenge for me. I can't seem to locate any instructions for pulling the wiring harness through / connecting it up...

BTB: Try RSSRTOY (aka Mark) if you haven't found a lid liner yet...

I'm in the same boat, I have no clue how to run this harness. Can someone supply some guidance or instructions?

Pulling wire

After the lid is removed , you want to TAPE the NEW WIRE HARNESS TO your Old Harness. make sure you DO NOT USE THE CONNECTION THAT WILL GO TO THE NEW LID . GENTLY PULL THE OLD HARNESS OUT THRU THE LT. REAR 1\4 Panel . IT IS CLOSE TO THE TAIL LIGHT AND THE CONTROL BOX FOR THE LID OPENER . There are 3 screws that have to be removed inorder to open the control box . The plug form the old Harness will be removed and the plug from the new harness will go into that opening. If you are still confused ,PM me with a phone # and I will give you a call

Thanks. I just knew someone had either been there and done that or at least knew how to, thanks again. I'll keep the phone near-by just in case, but it does sound rather simple.
