I know this has been addressed in numerous e mails, but I would like to know what I can do to get the new hardware. My lid barely opens and I really dont like prying it open with my finger tips. This is just not kosher for a truck of our value. My local dealer has said that the TSB refered to and doc # 1864702 states that the finger tip method is OK. I dont agree, does any one have an approach that will force the the dealer to comply? It seem obvious to me that since GM came up with the new parts that is what should be done. Any help wil be greatly appreciated! Howard
Dealer is Chistianson Chevrolet in Arroyo Grande, CA

In stead of going back to dealer and having my junk struts replaced with junk struts I bought a set from LST and I'm done. These were hood struts. Quality replacements. I got what I paid for.

Howard-
You need another dealer. I just got mine done in Dallas area in warranty. The dealer Huffines Chevrolet was awesome. Gave me absolutely no problem. I think the response varies substantially from dealer to dealer.

I'd take the TSB directly to the Service Manager and discuss all the fixes you're going to need on this vehicle - give them one more chance. If he's not open to that, find another dealer. Bottom line is that finding a tech that knows what he's doing with this particular model can be difficult but is a necessity.
Good luck!

I had my hinges and struts replaced on my 04. I had no problem with my Dealer. After replacement which took them about an hour the lid pops up everytime. Prior to replacement the lid just opened enough to get my fingers under the lid to open it. I checked with a few Fanatics that had the LST struts and the LST struts open the lid easily. The only difference that I can see between the LST struts and GM hinges and struts is that the LST struts are stronger and therefore you have to push a lot harder on the lid to close it. I didn't like that. AND THE GM REPLACEMENT IS FREE.
The GM fix which includes the hinges and struts are NOT junk as some have implied.
Bottom line is you probably should go to another dealer.
I also had mine replaced under warranty by the local dealer. Tell the service manager that the lid will not open enough to allow for convenient opening and that the TSB is the corrective action for this problem. The new parts work very well and as mentioned are free from GM. If that doesn't work then as others have indicated a new dealer is the answer. Good luck.

LST will adjust the gas pressure accordingly and stands behind his stuff.
As far a junk goes my replacement clutch is the same junk that came out. (ok...nothing to do with struts)
Warranty work is free. Maybe I should have taken advantage of it...(hood struts). So let's just say I upgraded with LST's. My story. My .02

Hinges & struts
I had Stephen from LST install both the rear cargo lid and hood struts while I was at the Springfield Super Rally. One of the best modifications I have done so far. No screwing around with the dealer. They work like the factory ones should have. some have posted that they have got their dealer to pay for the LST struts. I am so happy with the way my LST units work, that I have not bothered to contact the dealer. The LST struts are right up there with Rhobbels Windsuppressor and Mike in AZ products. All are better than the factory units they replace.
Replaced the struts (and hinge assembly) on the 05 under warranty. Service rep at first said GM told them it should only open to fingertip height - and I told him every SSR off the assembly line needed repair, since every one I knew of opened all the way when new. He laughed, then agreed, and I got my warranty repair. Used the LST struts on Blueeyes 04, because the new hinge assemblies have a different measurement, different angle, and the hinges interfere if you have hard storage boxes. Keep looking for a different dealer, and you'll get the warranty repair you're entitled to.
