The procedure really isn't that difficult, just a little cumbersome.
1. Remove Cargo bed cover.
2. Pull up weather stripping from the drivers side bed area, and pull bed liner back to expose 4 nuts holding the strut bracket in place.
3. MARK THE POSITION OF THE BRACKET (If it isn't lined up correctly, when you reinstall, the cargo cover will not sit flush/even).
4. Remove 4 nuts from bracket.
5. Disconnect wiring plug from lid sensor switch (inside the bracket).
6. At this point, I tied a piece of wire to the connector (to use like a "snake") on the wiring harness that comes through the bed wall. The length of the "Snake" wire should be no less than about 6 feet.
7. Under the rear of the truck (rear corner), on the drivers side, you will see a small black box, about the size of two cigarette packs, side by side. The cables for the "trunk" release are running into it. Below this box is the end of the wiring harness (Clipped to the sheet metal under the box). You will need to open the box, by popping the door open. (It has two snaps on the forward part of it, and is hinged in back). Inside the box there are two Torx bolts that will need to be removed.
8. Move the box away from the frame (Just pry it out enough to move the harness behind it), and pull the (old) wiring harness down and out. Disconnect the "snake" wire you attached earlier, and connect it to the new wiring harness.
9. Disconnect the old harness and attach the new harness to the existing plug (Large Square end).
10. Pull the "Snake" wire back through the bed, and this will pull the new wiring harness through the frame and back through the hole in the bed.
11. Connect the small oval plug to the lid sensor switch.
Position brackets back in the correct marked position, and run remaining end out the front of the bracket.
12. At this point it's just a matter of buttoning everything back up.
*** Lessons Learned ***
You will need two people to remove the cover, and snake the wire. One person will need to hold the trunk release box back while the other pulls the wire through.
The wire is not visible anywhere other than the hole in the bed, and the end of the frame. It runs through the double wall, and through the frame and exits below the trunk release box. DO NOT spend your valuable time trying to see if you can "See the wire to trace it back". Won't work.
I removed the drivers side tail/brake light assembly to have a little more access. Can't say that it helped any or not, but it's a very easy procedure.
That's about all I can remember. If you need any other help, or have any questions drop me a PM, and I'll see what I can do. If I get real ambitious, I can take a picture of where the wire comes through under the truck, which will help you out greatly.
