Check your nuts!!
Even under my watchful eye the guy at the tire store used an impact hammer to mount one of my wheels before I caught him and made him switch to hand-tightening with a torque wrench . Yesterday I noticed two lug nuts missing off that wheel, the ones he started on. Had to pull the wheel and replace the studs. Just a safety percaution to check your lug nuts - An impact wrench should never be used to tighten lug nuts, it stretches the stud. And never ever use them on aluminum wheels, it deforms the bolt holes..

I hope all our friends and visitors read this. Too us old cronies this is common knowledge but I know that these Tire Repair Guys are not always tought the right way.
What is important is to know the exact foot pounds of torque that should be applied to each Lug Nut. I haven't had to look that up as of yet since I haven't had a Tire or Wheel problem. But I would assume somewhere between 80 to 90 LBS. On Aluminum Wheels. But I hope someone has that info and Posts it for all to see.
OH...I thought this thread was about something else.
Seriously, some of the early 2004 (and I suppose 2003) shop manuals call for 140 foot pounds...THEY ARE UNDOUBTEDLY INCORRECT. I have been using 100 and have had no problems but the above warnings are correct. Incorrect torque can also lead to warped brake discs.
Let us all be reminded that there is a criss cross pattern of nut tightening as well as tightening up through several steps so each nut gets tightened at least 3 times from finger tight, to half tight, to full tightness.

Same here Joel and I must have pulled them off 4 or 5 times in the past year. Only difference is I use the airwrench set @ 80 psi, then take it to 100 with the hand wrench. Even then you'd be surprised at how far off each air installed is from 100!

I'm not too quick......but my truck is
I had custom wheels put on my Daytona truck. I noticed it seemed to handle funny afterwards. Then when I was washing it, I discovered I was missing a lug nut and another was about to come off. All the lug nuts on that wheel were loose. That is why it handled weird. So I called Greg outside and he tightened them all up and checked all the others. It rides great now. It wouldn't have been fun if the wheel had come off.
That squirrel is so funny. I have seen squirrels running around that look just like that where my son lives in town. You can't help but notice when they are running along a wire. The funny thing is that the rabbits where we live are the same way....

Reminds me of when I and a buddy were changing tires on a car that was on a lift, in a Shell Station we were employed by. Dave and I did not communicate on who was tightening the lug nuts with the air impact wrench. We drove the car off the lift and it fell l flat on its belly about ten feet out of the garage. Taught us a pretty good lesson.
