I musta' been CRAZY! Instead of buying a new chrome alternator for around $300 bucks, I thought I could save me some bucks and build my own. So, I called DB Electric and got them to sell me a chrome housing kit, (outer cases and pulley) for only $120 delivered....Well today was the the big day, I got it off and started breaking down the unit, I use to could do the older ones with my eyes close. But this was a whole new game! After unsolidering the field coils and getting it all unbolted, the fun began...The front bearing was "Of- Course" pressed in, SO...that wouldn't come out! Then after removing all the bolts in the rear Brush & Diode assemble, I saw it did not just lift off or pry off either. SO CLOSE...but yet, SO FAR!!!
Well, I quickly accepted that I was not "Da Man" on this stuff anymore. I went ahead and put it back together like it was. I felt I was lucky just to get it back together and working again.
Now, I have the 2 shinniest paper weights you've ever seen, and still no Chrome Alternator! I guess I could drive to the "Alternator Shop" 40 miles away and beg them to do it....for maybe $200.00 or so!

It sounds like you have the kind of luck that I have.
(Save a nickle and spend a dollar)
Good luck.

Hmmmm, I currently have mine apart on the table polishing it. Although I have not disassembled the entire unit I do agree that it is not "old school". I think if you take another crack at it you would be able to figure it out if taken the time and in the right mind set. The bearing is probably the worst part and that is just a few whacks with a hammer, bringing it to a local machine shop and pressing it out, or just getting a new one.
It might be different but not entirely out of the "do it yourself" level.

Most Auto Shops will press them out for you for free. Atleast around here they will.
Well, looking back on yesterday, I know that it was not my skills that let me down....Just my lack of a arbor press to remove the bearing. After looking around on the web I found on "UTUBE" some how to videos from a guy called (Mr. Alternator). It showed me that I was doing it right, and I was so close to getting it done. There was several more videos on the AD244 series alt. Some of the info was for upgrades too. Monday, Me & that AD244 will tango again, I ain't done... I'm gonna get me some "BLING" to go with my New Air Brushed engine cover yet!
Does any one know a place to get a chrome alternator for a 06. I just want to open the box and put it on with the correct PULLEY already on it?
thanks Jim

I have been told NOT to get more than 180amp because your electrial system will not take it.
Over 180amp you must install a resister to cut the amps down.
Some one in the Panhandle bought one with 205amps and had to add the resister package.

Are you kidding me! That engine bay is unbelievable Dick! Do you have any heat issues? Did you have the pieces custom made?

Polished Aluminum Alternator
I wanted the Alternator to match the polished alum billet pieces so I had a shop take it apart and reassemble after I sanded and buffed the cases.
they charged me $140 and included new bearings and diodes, (the only way they would warranty the alternator) even though it only had 12,000 miles on it. It was a good deal for me, if you want chrome and cant dismantle and reassemble yourself a well known quality shop in your area may do a minor rebuild with a warranty like I got for less then the $300 deals advertised.
But if you look at the Polished Aluminum Alternator and then the Chrome one you'll see what I'm talking about and the price was Only $60 more then what you paid and it came with a One Year warranty.
P/s love your color have u seen the Bosal Quad Tips? Just had mine put on for the 1st car show last night.

The Stainless came from American Car Craft in Spring Hill, Fl, Gary Petterson is the rep and he can be found under Vendor's on this Site.
It is 304/brushed w/304/black stainless overlay. The Engine Billet came from TNSSRMAN, Floyd Bailey and the engine side billet came for Floyd also. The engine side billet has Gold anodized bow ties.
Stainless Radiator hose is after market form a local Speed Shop. $80 bucks, rubber replacement hose from GM is $140, go figure.
