CLUTCH - My turn
I wanted to get onto the highway. I was reving aggressively , let the clutch out, felt like I lost tension in the clutch, smoke from under the hood & a nasty burning order and no power. Shut it down, restarted..seems to drive OK. Has a click-click sound on the first 2" of clutch play when depressing and releasing. That started immediately after. It's going in Weds. for service. Most likely to diagnose problem & order parts. It is driving ok now. I'm apprehensive about going on the Chocolate run. Chime in please. Thanks, Frank

I have had instances in my old Mustang days of the diaphram style pressure plate sticking on high rpm power shifts, some times I could drive away, but on two occaisions had to call the tow truck since it peeled the lining off of the face of the clutch when it happened. I would tell the dealer you are having some clutch issues in case things go badly soon. Since there seems to be much documentation of clutch problems on the forum it couldn't hurt to have these items repaired and updated while the possibility of warranty still exists.
I remember ggoat talking about his clutch deal and you seem to have similar but different symptoms. I watch the clutch stuff closely as mine is a 6-spd also. Thanks for letting us know and Keep us posted.

What is your gut feeling on distance driving at this stage. I realize it's a crap shoot. Is an aftermarket heavy duty clutch available or should I just take what I get from the dealer and be satisfied? Thanks, Frank

I had the same thing happen only in a tight spot. Damn near got hit. Took to dealer and they are replacing the master cyclinder. It has been two weeks so far. Poor SSR looks terible sitting in the garage with her dash and seats pulled out. There is a problem with htese clutches a we need to keep in touch till we find a solution. I is a hard fix a parts are hard to find.

Seats & dash out for a master cylinder? What else is being serviced.
IS THERE A BICYCLE PEDAL KIT & CHAIN FOR THE SSR. I need to drive my RDZTR no matter what it takes.

I also complained of a under preforming air conditioner at the same time so maybe that is why the dash is out. The tech working the truck was not available when I stopped by to check on the SSR. Thinking back it seems there has been a lot of disscusion on clutch problems. Can not get a look at mine for a few days but, is it possible that the hydraulic lines are too close to the exhaust? That would explain the brown fluid. Maybe we should develop some kind of shelding to reduce the exposure?

They already are shielded. I've got about 1/2" clearance between the shielding and the passenger side head on my truck. I may go in there today and try to increase that a a little and take a look and see if it maintains that clearance all the way down to the bellhousing.
Hey Guys and Gals,
I just dropped mine off at the dealer this morning. First I had a hard time going into reverse and the clutch pedal wanted to stick to the floor. Within a few days I got stranded. I couldn't go into any gear. On a whim I tried it with the engine off and it went right into first and straight to the dealer I went.

Too Wierd
Visited my SSR at the dealer and it was a sad site to see. The dash has been removed to the firewall. Tech showed me a weld he had preformed to the under dash frame. One of the welds had not made the cut. Contributing to the cluch master cylinder failure. Also, the AC sensor was the wrong cclor. Dealer claimes that clutch is OK,. Hope they get it all back together the way it was,

Are you sure you trust the dealer in Show Low???? I know they are good with 3/4 ton crew cab diesels, but am not sure about their SSR and Corvette support.
Regards,
Mike

Visited dealer today
Everything checked out OK. They could not reproduce the problem. And it seems to drive ok. That's the status until it goes sour again. At least it's on record so I'll see how it goes. Frank

I'm hearing the same click....most of the time. It's not bad if you have the tunes on. But it can be annoying if you have them off and the top up. I'm thinking of telling them about when I take it back for them to replace my LF tire.
