Hello, new to the site and I'm not sure where to post this so please move it if needed. I've got a 2004 SSR, never had any problems ever....went to get the oil changed....all is well but check engine light came on soon after...take it back to the oil Change place, they say "gas cap", they replace the gas cap and reset the code. Light still comes on later. I take it to parts store and use their code reader...P0446 "Evaporative Emissions Vent Control Circuit" comes on. Where is this part located so I can check? I google and a similar problem comes up on a chevy malibu and the code notes that the vent is clogged. How do I fix this on my SSR? Has anyone else encountered this?

Hi jtb. Welcome to SSRFanatic, and you have positioned your first thread very well. Sorry to get your hopes up but sad to say I am just the numbers guy and only another fan of those that will soon come to your aid.

I had a similar run in with another Fanatic member. I took the gas cap off of my and put it on his and it fixed the issue. The cap they sold him was the wrong one for the SSR.
Guys the OP's problem isn't the gas cap. It is the EVAP vent valve control solenoid not venting the vacuum from the tank. it is located at the rear of the fuel tank with the canister. Check it and make sure it is open and venting as it's normal position is open with no power to it.

My sons Avalanche just had the same code and it was the emission vent switch. Replaced it and all is well. Google GM P0446 and it will explain it. Good Luck

I had this problem a couple of weeks ago. The vent valve stuck closed and I had difficulty filling the gas tank because of non-venting, the auto fill nozzle on the gas pump would kick off resulting in a very slow fuel fill. I have the extended warranty and the valve was replaced at no charge!!
