Control Arm Bushings

I am having the ball joints replaced on my R and the mechanic noticed that the control arm bushings need to be replaced.

Has anyone just replaced the bushings? If so where did you get them.

Thanks

Just type chevy ssr control arm into your browser. The whole control arm is about $60.00

Forgot to mention that both the upper and lower bushings need to be replaced.

Had to have my upper done. You have to get the control arm as the bushings are not seperate. Also if you're doing the work it took ICBLUE three different Chev control arms to get the right one from the Chev Dealer. Good luck

Energy Suspension makes aftermarket poly bushings for every model of the Trailblazer (the SSR is not listed, however). I'm still working on which is the perfect set. These are far superiour to the GM rubber ones in many ways (more precise suspension movements, better turn in, longer-lasting alignments) but there is the disadvantage of making the ride a bit stiffer. I plan on lowering my R next spring and will replacing all of the suspension bushing at that time. Upgraded spring rates and custom vavled Koni shocks are also in the plan. It'll never be a racer, but I want it to go where I point it just a little bit quicker. I'll be sure to post up pics and results for the project.

Sometimes reinventing is too costly have you thought about the full kit from norcalss the trailblazer guy

Thanks abadssr. Had not heard about the kit. Can you enlighten me a little more?

The ES bushings, Ground Controls with Eibac's, and the Koni's all come from my racing experience. This has been the most effective package I've found for the "tonnage challenged" vehicles. I used to race a 350z with this setup, and I've just installed them on an ancient Honda CRX with terrific results (first attempt at super-light). Lee Grimes at Koni can match the shock setup to whatever spring rates I decide on, still leaving me a bit of room for on-truck tweeking. Ride hight from the GC's, Bump and Rebound on the Koni's, and bar posistioning from the sways. I'd still like to research the kit you mentioned though, as I plan on towing the race car and I must admit, the compromises necessary for a good handling setup have me thinking twice about everything.

Thanks for all the help and feedback guys. Only an idiot thinks he knows everything... I'm no idiot (well, today anyway). The KW's go into the consideration column. I'll let you know which direction I go.

If you're considering lowering or upper control arms try the kit from DJM Suspensions. They have a complete lowering kit or control arms. They're listed as Trailblazer SS kits. Same suspension as ours. djmsuspension. com/products/cau-7/
