DIC message... Ice Possible

This morning I had driven about 3 miles from my home when I looked and saw the following message in my DIC: "Ice Possible".

The weather was beautiful, the sun was out and temp was in the early 40's with dry streets.

The message went off in about a half mile. When I returned home I looked for this message in the owners manual but did not find it.

Does anyone know what this is all about?

It coincides with reaching the freezing point..... Cute little "safety item" from the programmers...

Yea there was also a TSB on this somewhere for the ice warning coming on to early. The dic needs a re flash with the newer version of the software.

I'm sure it a "safety item".... or maybe it just a reminder to pick up a bag of ice on the way home...

here is the description right from the GM service info.
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the ICE POSSIBLE message in the driver information center (DIC) when the outside temperature drops below 4°C (39°F). The IPC receives a class 2 message from the body control module (BCM) indicating the outside air temperature.
the bulletin for reprograming is for the DIC not illuminating on start up.

Is this a service offered by the dealer?

Question what year?

is this programmed on all SSR's or just the ones that have the outside air temp gauge on the console cluster?

It works just fine on my 05, here in the desert, and I have no aux. guages.

the reflash has nothing to do with the outside temp reading it's only for the IPC not illuminating on start up and it is only for 05 MY

Over here in Southern California I had mine read "Clouds Possible" the other day, it is a pretty rare thing here so it was the first time I had seen that message.

Sorry, I couldn't resist making a funny as I have been biting my tongue since this thread opened.

The "ICE POSSIBLE" message sounds normal. My former 350Z would also display an "ICE" message at 37F as well.

The idea being that the temp at the road surface is likely to be a few degrees cooler than what the is being registered at the temp sensor.

So true ! !

Looking up at those beautiful blue skies, I can safely say you won't see that message on your DIC today, Joe. Thinking very seriously about making a short run to the ocean this morning. Look at boats, run in the surf, and lunch at Andreas (the World's best Angel Shark ! ! )

Will be back in time for the Raiders/Chargers game, where the Raiders will, I'm sure, continue their quest for the first round pick . . .

I received the "Ice Possible" or noticed it for the first time this past Friday. I live in Florida and it had been sitting in the sun all day and the outside temp was around 75 when I started it and got the message. It has not done it since then, does anyone know if this is an issue? It appears by what I have read this is normal in cold weather and the owners manual does not address it. Thank you.

Mine goes on any time it is below about 37 degrees. Evidently has nothing to do with the freezing point of water.
