They didn't fix my DIC

I mentioned this problem on another thread yesterday, but after taking my truck in for service I need more info. Over the weekend I was driving home from Kansas and several times the instrument panel went blank. Not just the DIC but the gear display and clock also. It came back on each time, but not always the same way. ie, once just the gear shift display came back on and then a few minutes later all displays returned. Sometimes everything went off for up to 20 minutes. By the time we got home everything was normal. Bob took it in for a driveshaft replacement today and told the service advisor of this new problem. All they did was turn up the dimmer switch and commented that there was no problem. I know what my instrument console should look like and the display was off, not just dimmed. I didn't have the dimmer off and the displays went blank on their own and came back on by themselves. Does anyone know what has caused this. I'm sure it will happen again and when I take it in this time I want it fixed. They didn't even listen the symptoms or they would have known it wasn't just the dimmer switch turned down. Thanks in advance for your help. This is really confusing

I have no insight but I would suspect the ignition switch for just about any random type problem that pops up.
Maybe another fanatic will have some more thoughts.

it could be the instrument cluster going bad , the whole thing is removed and replaced with an exchange unit-- set to your mileage @ the exchange center-- if one is avalable[ most common ] or yours is repaired and reinstalled [hardly ever] at least here anyway

See prior posts on replacing the guage panel - make sure they save the rubber plugs and re-install in the new unit.

Dorothy - you're not in Kansas anymore.

hmm...thinking swiftly...

...hmm...well I'd say if in fact you run into this issue again it could be a faultly fuse that needs to be replaced in your engines comp. fuse box... ...I remember when I pulled several fuses for my Predator tune one of those fuses controlled the dash display/everything...sigh...yep could be it otherwise you can run it by your service dept again.

hope this helps...

Thumbs up display-

fuses dont normally go "in and out"- i had the same thing with my display coming and going and then the ignition switch totally failed. Im guessing thats the source of your problem. easy fix

I just sent a sweet email to my service advisor at the dealership explaining that I felt there was a "failure to communicate" my problem properly and perhaps we should take another look at what is going on. We'll see if you can really get more flies with honey than vinegar!! Next time won't be so sweet.

I had a ford one time that the digital display went out and would come back on, Come to find out it was the instrument panel dimmer switch that was faulty and i had never even touched it, it would just not make full contact once replaced the problem went away. Don't know if that helps
