Digital Guages

Anyone out there know where I can purchase a complete digital gauge package for my 2005 SSR. The guages down on the console area are worthless as can't read them sitting in the drivers seat. While I'm at it I would just as soon replace everything if I can find digital componets that fit. Any help would be appreciated.

Dakota Digital IS good stuff. Expect to pay handsomely, though.

What about fit

Do these fit in the existing housing and replace the factory non functioning guages? What about the temperature sensor?

Why Digital???

There's nothing on the console worth monitoring except the volt meter and I'd only look at it if I suspected a problem. If I'm interested in OAT I bring it up on the DIC. IMO digital gauges in the SSR takes away from the retro look.

I replace my factory with the dakota--air temp trans temp and volt---used the existing wire for volts and power the the three--had to run new wires for the dakota air sensor and trans sensor---can give you more details if needed

I was unaware of that. Did all SSRs have DICs?

Bagger: All SSRs have the DIC, BUT only on the 05/06 SSRs does it include outside air temperature!

Thumbs down Oat

I was looking at the OAT. It was pegged. While setting in the A/C Parked. OOO well. So while I was setting there I ,was waiting for wify. I turned off the running lights. When I did the OAT guage droped back from pegged. Hummm I then turned the dash intensity setting on the light switch to dim my dash lights. When I did that, I saw the OAT guage vary from low to pegged. Thats right, turning the dimmer caused the OAT guage to move from pegged to normal. Thats what I call a miss wire or a short. Guess I will have to take it to the dealer for a guage.

Wouldn't that be nice if the dimmer switch could change the outside temperature?

Didn't want to touch mine today. The outside temp was in the low 70's and sunny with no clouds in the sky. I'll try adjusting my dash lights when it is cold out.

OAT in DIC for '06 only.... kinda

The display of the OAT in the DIC is a function of the instrument cluster and not the model year. In '06, they changed the cluster and the transmission indicator became a row of yellow LEDs above the DIC. I believe this is a result of the resident firmware for OAT in the cluster. The digital signal from the computer is available to the cluster in all models (given that you have a sensor installed) all the way back to the beginning. This was demonstrated by an AZ member, SSRJIM, when they put an '06 cluster in his truck (S/N 2721) and he suddenly had OAT in the DIC.

The only down side to putting the newer cluster in the older model (besides cost) is that the redline on the tach will be for the 6.0 liter. Not really a big problem, as I'm sure the computer will keep you from going there....

Mike: It IS interesting to see the tach needle go deep into the "red zone" on my 03 supercharged SSR with its 02 Z06 cam and valvetrain and 6500 red line (I'm still restricting it now to only 6100 with the supercharger, via the PCM programming, until I have more log data suggesting higher is ok).

Freaks out the passengers . . .

Is there any EASY way of refacing only the tachometer?

Jim,

The lettering is silk screened onto the clear plastic before they put the black mask over it. No way that I know to change it...... I think that once you start..... it's gonna require a new cluster....

Contact Schram Auto Parts to see if they have an '06 cluster for you to install.... The 6.0 has a 6500 rpm redline.

I call ed ScramAuto and they said $250 - $350 for a used one, but they don't have any '06 clusters.

Don't know. Check with your friend at the dealership and ask how many manhours get charged to do a swap.

OH Jim, you rascal..... I am always in need of skills Seriously, though, you will need to have your odometer mileage programmed into the new cluster. You might find that the memory location for the speedo correction is located in the cluster as well.

Regards,

Mike
