Do not buy the new dyno book

I know that some of you are as interested in dynamometers and dyno testing as I am, so I fgured I'd publish this warning about a new book that just arrived on the shelves at Barnes & Noble.

The book is titled "Dyno Testing and Tuning" by Bettes and Hancock, and has a sticker of $24.95.

I had high hopes when I saw it, and in my excitement about finally seeing a book on dyno testing, bought it without first doing a good sample reading of its contents. Now, I wish I had.

I don't think I've ever said this about any book before (I'm an avid information gatherer, and it takes a really bad book to annoy me), but this book is so poorly organized and badly written that I can see it actually turning people OFF on dynos and dyno testing. It's that bad. Likewise, I've never before actually warned people not to buy a book, but this turkey really merits advisory warnings.

If you, like me, have been looking for a good dyno book, do yourself a big favor and pass on this one.

Someday, there'll hopefully be a decent book on automtoive dyno testing and tuning.

Thanks for the heads-up, Jim. The Dec. 2008 edition of Corvette Enthusiast showed up recently in my mailbox, with an article on "Must Have Books". The Dyno Testing book was listed under the LS-Based Build-Ups. I was going to order the book based on their recommendation, but will hold off since reading your review.

Maybe you could write one?! I'd buy it.

My wife has been urging me to do so, but I have another book that I am now working on!

After I saw this dyno book though, I figured I should put a much better one into my own writing plans. We'll see.
