That dog gone TINK!!!!!!

Well I purchased my 06 with about 7500 miles on it and was thrilled not to hear the TINK when driving... Until today! Put it in reverse, TINK! Put in Drive, TINK!, Back off the gas in 2nd gear (automatic), TINK!

Just spent a lot of time with the search function reading everying thing that I could find regarding the drive shaft TINK. I had hoped that my 06 would be immune, guess not! What is the latest that Chevy has come up with to solve the problem? As it is still under warranty I would like to see if I could get it fixed at their expense. Is there a definitive fix from GM?
As always, Thanks.
Joe

Grease the splined shaft that goes into the tranny, tink goes away. Grease wears out/off & it comes back. There is no definitive fix that I am aware of. I've heard some take it back and have it replaced 8x.

Thanks Mike. Is the sound resonating "through" the drive shaft? It almost sounds like it is being amplified through the shaft. Have to bring it in for the whining blower motor and a couple of other little things. I just enjoy driving it so much I don't want to be without it.

Odd part was I bought mine fairly new and had driven it with about less than 700 miles on it and I heard the infamous "Tink" that everyone seems to complain about and had mine taken in dealership. I told the service dept I noticed with when I lightly give it acceleration while it shifted into second as well as decelerating for the automatic to down shift from second...and shifting to reverse as well. After the service attendants test drove my ride they couldn't recreate the problem they simply said you need to actually drive the thing...

I have reason to believe it might be due to the ring & pinion just the differential gears just rocking back and fourth when engaging...nothing serious. My dad's 05 Silverado has a limited slip diff does the same thing every now and then but not as loud as it used to be.

Long story short...it pretty much went away...so all who are concerned your rear ends aren't going to fall off.

Based on all of the stories I've read on the SSR Fanatic, my philosophy is to worry about it when it falls on the ground. The problem with anything on the Internet is that the complainers drive most of us to worry about things than only shorten our life span.

as a GM Service Manager. I Have Been able to fix this by replacing the drive line with a custom made steel one. GM did pay for this .But you will have to get the D.V.M. inyour area to OK this. Only talk to the Service Manager You can PM Umpire13 For more info. I know I will open a can or worms with this one. GM will tell you that there is nothing wrong.
