Door handle question

I have a mid-year (vin 21099) '05 truck with only 3K miles and have noticed that the driver's door handle is starting to get a score line or rub spot in the plastic on the top about 1/4" from the hinge point. Is this a precurser to the dreaded broken door handle?

I did notice a score line on my '04 inside door handle before it broke but I think that was unrelated; since they replaced the whole door panel from an '05 [new and improved door handle]. The part that breaks is behind the panel , the design of the handle mount to the panel . When it comes loose from the panel the handle then misaligns w/ the receiver that actuates the catch. Hope that helps.
