Door moves about 1/4" and rattles over bumps

I can move the driver's door, while closed, about 1/4" in and out causing a rattle. There does not seem to be any adjusting points and the service manual does not offer any either. The passenger door moves about 1/8". Looking for some ideas on potential fixes if any.

T-40 Star Driver

The latch plates will adjust slightly. It will require a T-40 Star Driver. Get the one you put on a 3/8" ratchet. I will also require a stout heart and arm, the studs seem to be put on with an impact wrench. Be sure to mark before loosening. After loosening, it will require tapping lightly with a hammer to move them.

After all that, I think your rattle is not your door. It is probably the alignment pens on the top. Go to That Ka-thunk! sound. . I think that is your problem.

Hope this helps.

Jack

I was surprised how hard I had to smack 'em, with the screws loose.

The plate behind the bolt usually have the corners pointed forward so when the bolt striker is tighten these pointed corners dig into the metal so it won't move around . When you loosen the striker bolt a good 1/8 of an inch strike the head of the bolt to push this plate away from the jam. Now you can move it around.

I will try this tonight....stay tuned! I knew the roof was making noise and I fixed that but the door(s) is(are) actually making noises as I already fixed the roof "spears" per "That Ka-Thunk Sound".

Ah, thank you. I thought maybe it was some sealer or something back there. I only had to move it a smidgen and was afraid if I knocked it around too much, it would loosen way up and I'd be back to square one. I guess if I loosened it up completely, I could put just enough tension on the points, with the screws, so it could be tapped into alignment.
Next time.

As always, the Fanatics come thru!! I loosened the striker bolts about an 1/8" out, then I took a 12" 3/8" ratchet ext bar, set it on the striker and hit it with a 10# sledge, "HeeHee", and it moved the 1/4". All's Well !!!
