Door repaired - will it break again?

I got my inside drivers side door handle fixed today. Will this fix the problem for good or will this one also break over time? They also fixed my console cup holder with a screw in one. Both were fixed under warranty.

Did they install the thin or thick flange on the new one? A screw? They should have replaced the whole side of the console. What's gonna happen to the screw in one when you slide the seat forward?

Don't know if flange was thick or thin. I never saw the parts. They said the cup holder was a new design and used screws instead of glue. It looks the same.

I hope it all works for you! I was concerned about the cupholder not sliding off if held on w/ a screw. I'm sure they used the newer design thicker flange on the door handle.

I removed my cup holder. Kept pushing off by accident. PLus, it looks real Mickey Mouse. It never should have been there to begin with.

I just keep mine in the glove box and pull it out if we need it. Most times I'm the only one in the so it hardly ever gets used.

I agree. It is the cheesiest piece o' crap on the whole truck. I sure hope whoever was responsible received the lengthy period of electroshock therapy that he/she obviously needed to correct their brain malfunction.

I use my cup holder everyday. The cup holder in the dash really does not work for my 16-20 oz sodas.

I converted my cup holder to a GPS mount!

This actually worked better than I thought - I bought a 2" PVC pipe coupler (the part you'd join two pipes with) and capped both ends with some flat plastic stock. I filled it up with some BBs (had a carton handy) to give it some weight) and the sucker simply fits right into the cup holder as if it were made for it! I installed a self-stick mounting base I picked up on Ebay (Seems that many Garmin units use the same base).

I'll have to take a picture of it to post up.

SSR71: I like the sound of your GPS holder invention. I use the supplied metal plate in my 'R' but have been looking for something so as to use my GPS system in my other truck. This just might be the answer. I didn't understand what you got from Ebay???? Waiting to see photo's. Thanks

With regard to your door handle; I just replaced my 2004 oem door pulls with the modified type. The difference in the siiize of the pivot point for the inside door handle is significant...I'd say on the order of 300% or more.

Assuming that your 2005 still had the early design (I don't know if the late design was phased into production at some point) the repair should last a considerable length of time. However, if you still have the early design on the r side...well.

Two addl points: I lubricated the pivot point on the new installation---no lubricant originally on mine, and I've disabled my automatic door lock function. I found that I was repeatedly trying to open the door at times (possibly pulling harder than necessary) with the auto lock function programmed.

I think they used a screw to only hold on the retainer bracket ,not the actual cup holder .

I just took my 04 in for the same thing today. There is a service report out for both doors.
Had to order parts. Claudia

Knowing you’re home sick in bed today, would you mind running out in your pajamas now and take some pictures of this GPS mount. Some of us at work need a LBK (Looking busy Kit) to study.

You should look for another dealer!!!! Some dealers suck...some are great.
You can buy the stuff from the dealers in this forum.
Post in the parts wanted forum or PM the dealers...

Ditto to WOW FCTR.

Yes, you can buy the parts and do the install yourself. I felt that route preferable to having a couple of dealers make the repair.

I'm not 100% sure from your description of the problem that this is the cure. The parts I installed are designed to fix the inside door handle coming loose. Your problem COULD be caused by excessive play in the door handle hinge or ?.
