Checker Auto, AutoZone, and PepBoys will scan your car for free and that will give you your answer as to why the check engine light is on

Thanks, I was going to take it to the dealer but Pep Boys is around the corner. I will try them first.

When it rains, it pours....

After 122,588 miles................
The Check Engine Light came on this past Monday after leaving a resturant. No other llight came on. Got it home. After reading about Auto Zone scanning for possible problem..took it over on Tues.(Catalytic converter was shown as the probable cause.(Engine never overheated)
I had scheduled an oil change for 1:00 PM. It was there when several leaks were found on the Radiator. Took SSR to a AAA approved shop to have
complete diagnostic scan done. They found Radiator leaking, reccomended replacing catalytic converter, fuel injection service due to carbon build up,
upper and lower radiator hoses(one was on National back order) Needs new
Radiator, coolant flush, evacuate and recharge air conditioner due to condenser removal.
THANKS TO MIKE (MikeinAz) parts are coming together so we can get on the road again, hopefully next week.

Did I mention that we also discovered this on Tuesday? On the passenger side door?

They had to remove the condenser to replace the radiator? I think I'm going break out the new manual I got at Maggie Valley and see what it says about this. I'm pretty sure you can remove the radiator without breaking into your AC system.

For the scratch on the door, get touch up from your dealer and clear coat from any parts store that carrys "touch up" paints (Pep Boys, Auto Zone, O'Rileys, etc)....wipe the scratch with thinner, apply color...let it dry for about 30 min., apply clear filling in higher than the orig. paint....let it dry down overnight....sand with 1200 wet (on a block) followed by 2000 wet until smooth then buff with a good compound...take your time and I'm sure you will never be able to find the scratch.........or, take it to a good body shop and for $200-$300 they will take care of it......my 2c

According to Mike (MikeinAz) they wont have to get into the AC system.
Work has not begun yet, still waiting to get all the parts together..hopefully
by next week.

Usually the cat goes bad after the O2 sensors are bad so be sure to have the O2 sensors checked out or you might be looking for another set of cats. BTW - I have a pair if you need them.

Thanks Art,
Quoting shop printout....
Computer scan test data stream. Scan tested code P0430A
Catalyst low efficiency Bank2. Tested all 02 sensors OK Inside OK
Cat rattles
Found radiator leaking, heat can cause melting of cat

All this terminology is alien to me.. Thanks for the offer for
a pair of cats. I already have one cat, Ringo. LOL
Trying to make light of this as it breaks my heart to see our
truck out of commision for any lenght of time.
I'll be sure to update after all the work is done.

I already replaced my catalytic converts (2 of them) they were under warranty for me....not cheap.
I had my water pump replaced too....a while back.

Keep motoring.....I will hit 150,000 miles sometime this year (unless something breaks )

I had the same problem, my engine light came on so I took you guys advise and went to Pep Boys to get a Free diagnose, they wanted to charge me $20 and didn't have but one guy that could do it, and I would have to wait for a couple of hours, so I took it to my dealer.
They had it done in 30 minutes! It was the Gas Cap!
They said that on the SSR and Corvettes the gas cap wasn't tightening down well enough to shut the sensor off!
Whether or not that is true, I'd suggest tightening your gas cap down if your engine light comes on to see if that will shut the light off first before taking it in!

Liz I hope they fix it and fix it right the first time so it doesn't mess up your trip!
Sucks about the scratch, maybe the dealership can fix that too!
