Factory Muffler Replacement

I am wanting to replace the factory mufflers and keep the remainder of the stock exhaust system for now.

Anyone have any suggestions on what mufflers to put on and what size and shape they need to be? I am wanting that muscle car sound without the old glass pack backfire sound.

Any help is appreciated...

Kermit: Try calling Reese at MTI Racing 770-919-7774. I really like the 2 mufflers he installed on my SSR as part of the custom dual exhaust system he designed and built onto my SSR.

They are straight through, use all stainless steel (including the sound absorbing packing material), and are amazingly small.

He mounted mine side by side like a double barreled sawed off shotgun, on the opposite side of the driveshaft from the fuel tank.

The whole system is a work of art, and I love the sound. The only time you get a HINT of popping is on a severe throttle letoff, and it's not at all obnoxious.

Thumbs up

I had the stock Muffler cut out and welded in a Flowmaster 50 Series. Sounds like the Mid year vetts.... It will allow you to retain your factory look but the rich muscle sound. Also Its not too loud but not to quite, when you put your foot into it either... Love mine.... It will cost between $100-$ 150 depending on the shop.

I also cut the stock muffler out, then checked three different type of flow masters and then a magnaflow I liked the sound of the magnaflow the best.

Muscle Car Sound...

That is what I am looking for...the old muscle car sound. The stock mufflers sound like any GM pick-up when you open it up.

Does anyone know the size of the pipes at the mufflers and if they are straight or offset?
