Factory trailer hitch install issue

I just reviewed past posts about installing the factory hitch. If I try using the instructions in the owner manual, I cannot get the hitch to "click" into the locked position. The hitch seats all the up into the triangular slots, but nothing happens. The key is still in the lock and cannot be removed, and the unit will drop back out of the socket. I checked up inside the receiver portion of the hitch assembly, but it is clear of any debris. This is the first time I attempted to install the hitch, since it was a new vehicle in 2004. Any ideas?
Thanks Phil

HI PHIL~~IF YOU STILL HAVE PROBLEMS TAKE A CLOSE LOOK AT THE CASTING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE NECK. MINE WAS NEW NEVER USED AND THERE WAS EXCESS METAL IN THE CASTING WHICH PREVENTED THE HITCH FROM LOCKING. ALL I DID WAS GRIND EXCESS OFF OR FILE IT. IT WORKED 4 ME. JOHN

make sure you turn the key counterclockwise and it stays there, pull knob out and forward as the picture on the knob shows before you insert the hitch into the recepticle. this should release the lock and knob goes in and turn the key clockwise to lock and remove the key. good luck

Update of Hitch issue

Just wanted to let everyone who responded to my inquiry know that I was able to get the hitch to properly seat in the receiver, after filing both the raised "triangle" studs on the hitch, and the "triangle" notches on the receiver body. Just a small amount of rusty material was enough to prevent the hitch from seating into the housing. It now works as it should......Thanks again Phil
