Hope some of you more experienced folks can help me out.
I put my 05 on a battery tender 6 weeks ago on a fully charged battery, exactly as specified on the forum (i.e. red to positive and black grounded to alternator bracket).
My neighbor who said she would start it every month or so, called me yesterday and said the battery is about dead and the truck wouldn't start.
Not sure what to do at this point...reading the forum posts on the subject didn't reveal an answer for me....I know I hooked up the tender correctly when I left and my neighbor said the clips were still firmly attached and the charger is showing a "green light" indicating it is charging.
The only thing I could think of was to ask her to put it on a "24 hour"
charge and see if that would charge the battery.
Any suggestion? Difficultly is I am not where the truck is and she is not familiar with the SSR.
Have her call me and I will meet her and look at the setup for you...if the truck is in Cocoa.
Left you a message on your cell phone yesterday. However, I know for a fact that the set-up was done correctly by me before I left a month ago and the charger (according to my neighbor) was left plugged.
Wondering if the ignition is the problem. Any one out there with some thoughts on the matter????

Battery could very well be failing. I would suggest having it tested and if replacing, I like my red top optima, but SSR03 likes his yellow-top optima
Calling you back.... and I am told that a trickle or any charger has to be dis-connected prior to starting. Sounds like battery is giving up the ghost.. I have a Diehard charger on the Corvette, operates at 2a but (the Diehard charger) also has a 50a starter selection.

I really appreciate your offer. Roger just called me (so did Beach Potato) also and offered to go jump start it and take it to the Dealer for a new battery. Nice to have good friends like all of you guys.
I think I am going to just let the truck sit until I get back the end of Nov.
Since the battery is already dead, I don't think there should be any problem with just letting it sit in the garage until I get back in late Oct.
Many Thanks!!!

battery issues
Wayneman,
I don't know what type of charger you had connected, but it could be the problem. Some of them will literally dry out and cook your battery, despite what their advertisements say. Their are some good ones that will revert to a trickle when the battery is "toped off", but there are a lot that will roast your battery. Take it from an electrical engineer, there is nothing that will happen if you start the SSR with the charger connected, unless the cord is in the way of the fan..... Most likely, your battery just decided to go away......

I have a battery tender also
Wayne,
I bought a Battery Tender (junior, 3/4 amp) for my yellow 04. It sits over at my Mother in laws house (a block away) and I thought it a good investment when I leave it for a week or two. I bought a cigarette lighter connector that attaches to the 12v socket in the bed of the truck. Seemed easy to connect and disconnect. Haven't used it yet. I'll probably replace battery this year since it is 4 years old.

Thanks for feedback. Is there any problem if the truck sits for the next 4 months without replacing the battery? Since the battery is already dead,
would it harm the truck in any way to leave it as is until I get back to Florida
the end of October?

Ken, that's what I will do when I get back to Florida the end of October.
Take care.....Wayne
