Fan Belt Squeal/ Have Searched and Yet Confused

I searched and read the post concerning fan belt squealing. I still dont really understand what the proper fix is? I get a squealing sound if I get on it hard. Like if I get on it enough for the auto transmission to gear down pretty low and get on the gas pretty hard towards redline then when it shifts it shifts good but I get a squealing sound from under the hood that sounds like the fan belt slipping.
Is there a tech bulletin for this problem? I read about replaceing the alternator?, and the tensioner? Thanks for your suggestions!

There is a TSB out there, check with your dealer. The alternator needs to be replaced. That's what they did with mine and it fixed it.
Good Luck

As I understand it, you get an alternator with a one way clutch to fix this noise.

Yeah, it's an easy and quick fix.

Took three days for my dealer to get the new generator in, and as mentioned, it has a clutch to prevent the squealing. You can tell it's different because the new part has a black plastic cover in the center of the pulley.

Coming from the Ford modular 4.6 DOHC (Cobra, Marauder), they had a clutched alternator as well.

IIRC, Freezer has pointed out there is no real operational problem with the chirp or squeal, but it drove me nuts. And they don't have any problem covering this under warrantee, so it's a no brainer, imo, if you are bugged by the noise.

I had the chirp from 1st to 2nd on hard accel. After I installing the preditor diablo tune the chirp went away. I haven't gone back to the original to see if its still there. Will do so when its time to take her in.

Thanks, I'm going to check on getting a new alternator. Thanks for your help.

Whats TCM? What the alternator squealing got to do with the transmission? A lil confused about all that.

Clutched Alternator

When the engine is at 6000 rpm, the alternator is spinning at 18,000 rpm. Trust me when I say that the inertia in the rotating part of the alternator is significant. When the transmission shifts to second gear under wot, the engine and the serpentine belt change rpm very quickly, but the alternator can't without slipping inside the serpentine belt. This generates the squeal you hear.

My '06 has the alternator with the clutch in it and has never squealed. It does, however, take a little getting used to under wot and 1-2 shift, since you can hear the alternator winding down for a second or two until it gets to the speed of the belt. I also notice the sound of the alternator still spinning for a second or so after the engine is shut off.

It's a really good fix, go get one today.

Regards,

Mike
