Flat tire

I had a flat on the SSR this weekend on the right front tire. I used the fix-a-flat and compressor but it didn't help as the sealant didn't take. I ended up having to call a flat-bed service to take me to a Tires Plus store. After dismounting the tire. they discovered that I had driven too far on the tire and had ground the sidewalls down and ruined the tire. Tires Plus did not have any tires in stock which I had expected and had to order two. The tires are supposed to be in this Thursday and hope to have the SSR back on the road by this weekend.

My question is: Can I use the front tire as a spare that will also work on the rear in a pinch? I did a search and another member had a front tire mounted on a used satin wheel and was using it as a spare. The fact was brought up of the 2 inch difference in the tires and if this would harm the rear end traveling any distance after turning off the traction control.

I will have one good tire that I could you as a spare after mounting it on a used satin wheel. Would this be safe to do?

I put a different size tire on my S-10 & the difference made one tire turn faster then the other, witch ate the gears in the rear end . I say don't do that on the rear end. That is my experence with different size tire's.

You should be able to use a mismatched tire, for a short time, in an emergency, if you have an automatic with the torsen rear. Not with a stick however, different rear.
If I'm misinformed I'm sure someone will step up and smack me.

I would say it closer to the other way around but I would not want to do either for very long or very fast.

Randy,
I went to tire shop the other day to replace two rear 20" and asked tire shop pro which is better? To run a 19" on rear or a 20" on front and his suggestion was a 20 on front ***** for a short period only****** to a tire shop. a 19" on rear will do more damage than a 19" on front. My 4 cents worth! (inflation)

I want to thank everybody for their replies. I may just get a Trailblazer rim and 17 inch tire and leave it at that.
