Exclamation Is the front end part I broke important?

I heard it when I hit the curb in the parking lot, but only noticed the break today. The plastic cross piece along the front (not that little flat air dam or whatever it is) is broken . It seems that the bottom of the radiator fits into it, does this piece HOLD the radiator or any other important engine parts? Will I be okay if I do not get this part replaced right away, or should I rush to the dealer now...??Any help or thread link appreciated!

That is the lower radiator support and MUST be replaced immediately. It is not cheap, close to $300 not including labor.
Good Luck

That lower radiator support is a critical part. It carries the weight of the radiator, A/C condenser and OEM cooling fan. If you are going to have it replaced at the dealership, be sure to find a way to provide a little support for the broken one when you drive.

I would contact Frank Belk via PM, as he is a GM parts guy and can get one shipped to you. This plastic part has a list price of about $225 and Frank should be able to get it to you for about $50 less.

Good luck,

Mike

Ok, call me an idiot... every car or truck repair I have ever done, I have had the dealer do. They get the parts, put them in etc., and I pay the parts and labor charges. I have never really thought about buying my own parts. If I get the part at a better price, will the dealer still put it in for me if I bring it along with me? Like I said, call me an idiot - I have never done it this way!

You are not an idiot. I would be surprised if you find a dealer to do what you are asking. If you can't do it yourself, you would be better to take it to a local trustworthy mechanic to have it installed, or see if there are some mechanically inclined fanatics in your are to assist you.

This part is not that difficult to install yourself. You just need to hold up the radiator/fan module while you install the new part. You would have to unbolt the top support in order to lift up the module.

You are not an idiot, alot of dealers will not do such a thing. If the dealer I work at you would be in luck because we will, as long as they are GM parts. So I say call around if you have the time and you may get lucky. If you don't have the time, the other post was right it's is not to hard of a install.

You're not an idiot. Just order the part and I'll bet you you'll find a local garage that will do it for half (or better) price them a GM dealer. Say, since you're in Burbank CA, see if Jay L. will do it as he loves hot cars.
