Front grill

Ok, here's the question. I want to be able to remove the stock grill and replace the black mesh with say speed grill, or something along that line. I've seen the bar covers and like them, but think that replacing the screen with stainless would really set off the front of the truck.

How do you get to and remove the black screen??

You will need top remove the front cover.

Once off it has pressure clips holding it on along with some two sided tape.

Now if you're planning on leaving the Black mesh out, you will considerably weaken the front cover. The mesh is made of a more ridged plastic than the cover and gives it strength.

My sugestion is to attach the speed grill material to the mesh and leave it in place. Being black you really won't see it.

I took my black mesh out (to look like the original). While the black mesh does give give the front facia strength, but I have experienced no ill effects with a "weaker" facia (no distortion, no melting ). I did zip tie the facia to the internal bumper bar...

That said, if I was going to install a grill, the black mesh would disappear behind it.

Never fails, when you find something you like, they quit making it. That's always my luck, day late, dollar short.

Talking Universal Chevy Bow Tie grille material

I found a place that has that Chevy Bowtie grill material with only one Google search. Check it out here:

http://www.sfxperformance.com/parts/APC821057P.htm

It's $35.75 for an 8" X 48" piece and it's polished aluminum.

I've been looking for a while now with no results.

It seems Axiom is the only supplier, and that sounds too much like a horror story to deal with.

Good Job, but is it in stock? I contacted APC twice, two different people responded and they said they stopped production of it.

Maybe these guys still have some of it. They have it up for sale. But, I suppose that doesn't necessarily mean it's in stock. Give 'em a call and see what they have to say.

Summit had it for sale also, but none in stock. That's when I contacted APC directly. I have emailed this Texas company, but they are closed now due to time change.

Thanks

email response from SFX; Although we can get a few of these I highly recommend you use a better product for your SSR. I personally used stainless steel mesh for my car which we got from www.customcargrilles.com

Summit grill material! Did you thing about the possibility of reduced air flow to engine compartment? We have enough engine heat now!

I brought up the same concern back in March in this thread:

Grill

Nobody seemed to be worried about it back then. IMHO it sure would seem to be something to consider.
