I noticed today after filling my tank that the gas cap spins and makes the clicking sound but if I pull on it it comes right off. Anyone have this issue and know of a fix short of replacing it?

There isn't a problem for me..... just try to put it in again. I have had this happen a couple of times.....if NJ wasn't a ALL FULL service state, I'd say I'd have done this quite a few more times.
The cap seems to be in place, but can be pulled straight out...I try again and it takes.

Chuck,
Took my '04 into dealership TODAY for annual emissions inspection (TX). Was told the gas cap had to be REPLACED to pass. $26.
I took her in for a THOROUGH checkup and oil change (I requested the "332-point checkup with the "32-point checkup" coupon and waited for 2 hours to get it back. EVERYTHING OK - just before my 3 yr bump-to-bump warranty was up (end of July).
HOW DOES A GASCAP GO BAD in 3 years on a new vehicle with only 21 fill-ups and only 4400 miles on it? Go figure - I politely pointed out all the above and still couldn't get the dealership to replace the gas cap under warranty (my $50 deductible on the extended warranty didn't quite cover it.....)
Blueeyes' 04 UV has had the gas cap replaced twice. Both times the bad cap gave us a check engine light, and both times our dealership (Sands Chevrolet, Phoenix) replaced the cap under warranty.
Had to have the cap replaced on Smokey .the threads inside stipe and it does not make a good seal, then the engine lite comes on . Dealer replaced under warrenty.

Emissions related components have longer warranty than the bumper to bumper 3/36. Check your warranty paperwork.

it seems to me if the gas cap was bad and it cant pass inspection the check eng light should come on and it should be covered under the warranty and the retail price of just the cap [no labor ] from gm is less than $19.00 were did they get $26.00 ??I would go some where else also word of mouth advertising "priceless"that $7.00 could cost them thousands

Exactly - 8 years or 88k or something to that effect - under FEDERAL LAW. That would cover the gas cap, Catalytic converters, O2/MAP/MAF sensors as well since those all control air fuel mixture. Fuel injectors may even be covered too.

The gas cap is part of the emissions system. It should have been replaced undedr the emissions warranty.
