Gauge Pod/ Ashtray

Can anyone help me to the process of REMOVING the ash tray. I want to mount my trailer brake controller in that spot but I cant see how to get it out, dont want to break it out if possible.
I just got a guage set, it doesnt have a mounting bracket, but I think I can fabricate something that will work, but wouldnt mind getting the real thing if possible, any clues to part# or availability? Also before cutting up the carpet can some one direct me to the location of the prewired connector? It seems like it would be on the left side because the wire connector on the pod comes out a little on the left side. Mine is a 03 if that makes any diff.
Thanks for any help in advance.

If you just want to remove the tray that the ashes go into, you can take a flat blade screwdriver and very gently pry up on the side of the tray.
If you want to remove the whole assembly there is a hinge at the very bottom of the ashtray. It is fastened to the dash with 2 screws (or bolts). There are 2 other philip head screws that hold the cover on the the ashtray. There is a plug for the wiring to the cigarette lighter.
