Gear Change

Hello fellas, I have a question. While most SSR owner seem to be preferring increasing the drive axle ratio to 4.35 and up. I on the other hand would be more interested in getting a lower gear similar to my corvette, which runs approx 500 rpm lower at the same speed comparably.

My question what is the current gear ratios on a 05/06 vette and can that lower gears be installed in the SSR . I like the 29 mph I get with my vette and I believe the 400hp would still make the car perform more than satisfactorily.

Comments?

Thanks

While I understand your goal I can not suggest a higher ratio, as the engine is lugging while in overdrive at 60-65 mph with the current ratio of 3.73.

No matter what you will not get the mileage of the Vette as the weight has more to do with it then the rear ratio.

Take into consideration the rear tire height of the SSR compared to the Vette and then work out the gear ratios and you are already there.

I think by changing to a higher ratio gear set you will actually decrease the mileage.

Second opinion

I'll second 05 6speed's comments on the ratio being too high already. On my '05, I have to drop to 5th at the minimum if I drop below 60. Any slower and the engine will practically stall. It certainly doesn't have enough power at 1000 RPM to pull itself back up to speed. I'm planning on changing mine out to a 4.10/4.11 (depends on who you ask what it really is) as that should make the high gears feel better.
