My SSR: BUFFY = Big Ugly Fat Friendly Yankee - 2004 Vin# 8120
Good News, Bad News....
Bad News:
I got the dreaded Check Engine Light (CEL) this weekend and it wouldn't go off, even after sitting all night.
Good News:
Dropped it off at the dealer this morning and they just called and said it was ready to be picked up. They had to replace the ignition switch module. In talking to him, he mentioned that this solves a LOT of erratic problems on SSR's and other GM products that use micro-processors to run the vehicle.
I'll let you know if it "permanently" solves the problem

Same thing happened to me a few months in and replacing the ignition switch fixes it. You can tell when it is about to happen when the ignition switch kind of sticks when you stick in the key and turn it.

If sticking is a sign of trouble on the way would lubricating the switch on a regular basis with something like graphite help at all??? Or would it just screw things up more??
I had my ignition switch replaced because it wasn't sending the right info to the transmission. The transmission went into what is called the "limp in mode" I couldn't go faster than 45 mph! The bad ignition switch also caused the a/c to shut off and the fan would come on full blast blowing hot air! You also could not shut it off unless you went under the hood and pulled the fuse! The new ignition switch fixed both these problems. njssr.

I have changed alot of ignition switches in the trailblazers for just these complantes, as they are the same part for the SSR I carrier one with me just in case. By the way my inside door handle finally broke last week, so I ordered both sides. the passenger side came in in 5 days but the drivers side still hasn't shown up. even as a GM tech I can't get the parts any faster.

Can you supply us w/ the Ignition Switch part# & some install tips, special tools required, etc...
Buffy, What happened first? You mentioned that you got the ignition switch replaced because your (check engine light) came on. You didn't mention anything that happened to the transmission or the a/c and the blower fan? Did you just have the ignition switch replaced to fix the light not knowning this would fix the transmission / a/c problem or you knew they all were related? Set me straight, because I freeked when this happened to me on last summers cross country road trip!
