goodyear tires

has anyone tried the goodyear vsb tires?i have 24,000 miles on mine and have kept the pressure at 30 psi but the tires are almost wore out in the middle.my other truck that i had wore the tires out in the middle also.i ytied air pressure from 26 to 35 on it and nothing helped.i have found a complete set of 4 vsb's for about $800.00 shipped.i thought if they were good tires i could buy all 4 and get half of my money back by selling 2.i dont want to spend that much money without knowing something about them.thanks.sonny

High center wear

Hi Sonny, seems like a lot of wear on any tire on the SSR. My fronts show inner wear and My centers on the original GY's had twice the wear as the edge. 15k miles. I was anal about 30lbs of pressure and ground force balance. Didnt help. I went to Toyo Proxes S/T 295/40/20 and 30lbs of pressure. I will be monitoring them closely. Keep the data base growing.

note the wear bars in the center

Click on the thumbnail photo, then put cursor on the tire and click when cursor becomes + giving a close up of the tire tread. Look at back of SSR, see the Toyo design tread. I really like the looks but the sticking in the rain is Excellent. Its been raining here a lot! . My buddy Roger, aka SharpToys, alerted me to the Brand and thank goodness I paid attention. Came from Edge racing 800 489-5353 Miami Edge Racing - Home $164ea and shipping of $8.04 UPS ground per tire in Florida.

I put the same Toyo's on my SSR and they are great. They have more traction in the rain than the GYs did on dry roads. You still had a couple good smoky burnouts left on those GYs

Gy's are spares now, Excuse me Sonny, didnt mean to turn this into a Toyo thread...LOL but they are so good in the rain - my permagrin is wider now. I dont have to take off in 2nd gear when raining..

On the Toyo site, its the 2nd tire or the one next to the STll. Check another dealer. Doesnt sound like you are dealing with someone who knows what they are selling, his local distributor probably is also not with it. Toyo tires arent stocked as a 'off the shelf tire'. Keeping trying. You will be very glad. Its has rained like crazy here for a week and I am highly satisfied with the performance.

Toyo Proxes S/T II Tires:

I got some "new shoes" put on a couple of weeks ago. I had the Toyo Proxes S/T tires in P255/40R20 and P285/35R22 sizes, and size I had been happy with them, I was hoping to get the same ones again. I was told by Discount Tire that they were discontinued and replaced by the new Proxes S/T II in the same sizes.

The new design Toyo Proxes S/T II tire is completely different, and the guys at Discount Tire were really raving about all aspects of the tire and its new features/design.

By the way, I got about 33,000 miles on the original Toyo S/T tire and would have done better, but the edges were worn supposedly due to my running them under inflated at 30 psi, as I was told. Discount Tire told me to run 34-35 psi (cold) pressures in these new S/T II tires

Good news for you sonnyssr, I will be replacing the fronts soon as GY's are worn badly in the inner area. My tire guy Dave has S/T, but thats here in Florida, where are you sonnyssr? GM dealer says alignment is to spec. I read the threads on that and can only continue to address the alignment numbers..LOL

Continental Tires

I just ordered four tires from Discount Tire Direct.

255.50.19 Continental cross contact UHP 29 inches tall 10 inches wide
295.45.20 " " " " 30.45 inches tall 11.6 inches wide

The reason I ordered new tires the inside wore on the front and the middle wore on the back 30lbs pressure 25,000 miles

Hey Pete so the 255 50 19 tires will fit OK and not rub? Is that the UHP's you ordered?

I don't have them yet but Discount Tire Direct has a thread on the forum and they list all the tires that will fit. The thread is Discount Tire Direct they are a supporting vendor for the Forum. Check it out. The tires cost $717 delivered to my door. There are many to choose from

Just what is ground force balance? Isn't that the same as spin balancing? Hope someone will answer this question as I've notice a vibration during the Durango run whenever I get up to 85 MPH. I want to get this look into within the next week or two.
Thanks - RRR
