Got Roof Leak?!

I've had the seal in the silver SSR replaced twice by the dealer. It leaks worse than it did before. My yellow one leaks too, but not as bad. I know of 2 other owners & theirs also leaks. If anyone else has had this problem & solved it, Please let me know.

I guess it all depends on how bad the leak is...now I'm scared because that's what I don't want happening. I just recently took my SSR to the dealer in regards to that because every time I wash my truck or when it rains it leaks ever so slightly down the side of both passenger and driver side doors dripping straight down the sides of both seat belt areas. They told me pretty much all that they were going to do was add new weather stripping and they had no idea how long it would take to get in the parts to do so...2-weeks to 3 months..."We don't know exactly when but as soon as they come in I'll notify you." was their response back to me. I just want the leak along the split gone is all.

So you now know 3 other owners that leaks now...and is yours leaking in the same area?

Sorry, JTR . . . my SSR rarely gets wet except during Bath Time and, so far, NO LEAKS.

Is the leak around the side windows or at the windshield?

Curt

It's true.

I had my dealer work on mine twice and it still leaked. So I took it upon myself (having been a waterleak specialist for the local dealers ) to address the problem.

In the threads HRG and Wow Factor have listed are detailed instructions on how the dealer can get the problem corrected.

It can be done by you if you're mechanically inclined at all. But if you're under warrenty let them do it.

I fixed mine in the late summer of 04 and it's still leak free.

Veiwed these threads & Hotrodgirl has good pictures of where the leak(s) are on post# 18.
What really bugs me is my freind is a Gm mechanic at the dealer & GM can not provide the information he needs to fix it right. I have veiwed the GM service help site w/him & will only show how to R&R the seal.
I read Fuzzys fix w/the screws & would like to see in detail.
Like most, mine are garage kept & not driven in the rain, but Iwould like to be able to wash them w/out my son having to hold up 2 towels against the windows on the inside!
I haven't touched the one yet (that's my baby) I've let them experiment w/the one. When this one stops leaking I'll fix the other.
If anyone is going to get the seal replaced its a good idea to give the mechanic a fitted bed sheet to put over the seats. 1st time I had to pick out all the little blobs of stick-um.

Makes perfect sense to me, JTR.

SSR leaks

My leaks too. It leaks on both sides . I've had it into the dealer abuot 6 to 8 times for the same leak & they tell me its a convertable & they all leak. Then they adjust the rubbers around the windows, & it last about 3 or 4 weeks & then starts leaking again. So I just live with it now .I'm tired of taking it in ,because every time I take it in they mess-up something else. So now I just live with it.It only leaks when I wash it with a power washer. So I use rags & plug both sides were it leaks. But I still LOVE it & I'm willing to put up with it.Got to love that

I completely understand how you feel. I love everything about my SSR's...except the leaky roof. It's embarrasing when people find out your classic truck has an issue. It just gives them fuel to why they didn't (or couldn't) get one.
Maybe it's cause I've been a roofing contractor for 18yrs, But I'm not willing to put up w/even a little leak!
I talked to my mechanic & now GM wants him to put some colored powder in water, dump it on the roof, & see exactly where it's coming in at (not a bad idea).
{better not stain either}
It won't be today, but hang in there & I'll let you know how it goes.
P.S. I really don't like the idea of putting screws in it, but I will if I have to. Right now I'm just trying to dodge the bullet.

Just to clearify.

The screws to be installed are only replacing the four plastic push clips that are located at both upper outer corners. They need to be a self sealing screw in order to keep the water from following the screw inside the roof and then eventually back out onto your shoulder or carpet.

As I understand it, the 05's have screws in place of the plastic pish clips already, but were not a self sealing screw.

Your right! After checking mine last night I saw the screws. I completely forgot what the seal looked like. My wife left her in the rain the other day & forgot to wash it. I could see a trail of dust where the water drains from the top seal & is missing the side seal at the top of the window & draining inside like pouring piss out of a boot. She's taking it back to the dealer tuesday. I made plans to clean the dust off my baseball bat if it's not fixed this time...but my lawyer has advised me against it.
