Question Greasing Roof Weatherstripping

I want to apply silicone grease to my weatherstriping, but I'm vague on how to access the roof weatherstripping. I assume that I need to stop the roof open/close process mid-change to access the weatherstripping, but I have read that there are "issues" associated with doing this and maintaining the integrity of the roof.

Can anyone help me out here? How do I access the roof weatherstripping without screwing up the roof?

Thanks, guys.

Do yourself a favor and skip the filthy/dirt collecting/unwash-off-able/sticky/greasy/slimy/bug-stick-to/shiny/globular/messy greasing of the weatherstrips.

Get some 303 Aerospace Protectant and soak the weatherstrip in it for a few hours. Buff off the excess. Do this every few months. Problem solved.

I'm just looking to protect it, as it seems like there can be significant problems if it's not maintained. How do I access the roof weatherstripping?

Cool

Knuck, just open it & stop halfway, no problem. I do mine every couple of weeks w/ the 303 and I make sure I get the seal at the top, where the 2 halves meet. While the top cover is up/open, flipper door up, look down inside for any fluid leaks, leaves, etc... Check your top pad and the Hyd. lines and make sure that they are not twisted or rubbing the paint anywhere. One of mine was wrapped around the stop point, rubbing on a sharp metal bracket edge, lucky I caught it in time. Do a search and you'll find all kinds of info on zip tie-ing off the lines, paint rubs, etc.. Tips & Tricks section is also good.

Here's another good thread on weatherstripping; My 05 SSR truck bed water leak solution

Good luck!

Thanks, Mike. I've been lurking on this thread to see what others were doing to address this. Looks like I'm doing it right.
