help..do you know transmissions?
So I took my SSR to a transmission place because it was starting to slip.
The guy put in a corvette servo, tightened the bands, and increased the pressure.
When I first drove it, I hit the gas the RPMs went all the way to red line, the rev limiter kicked in, it shifted to 2nd and gave me quite a kick into second....Well I couldn't drive it like that, so I took it back. He backed off the pressure some. It still did the same thing. So I took my Diablo programmer (I've had the diablo 97 octane tune in for 4 years now), and told it to put the original tune back in. That helped a lot. I put the 97 octane tune back in and still don't have the redlining problem, but
Now I hit the gas, it gets close to redlining, shifts to 2nd with a hard kick.....but the rpms remain at 3000 for a second or two then jump to 3400 and the truck takes off again. This guy, who's been doing transmissions for over 30 years, says he's never seen anything like it. He sent me down the street to another mechanic to get his opinion. That guy says he thinks that there might be some kind of fuel restriction kicking in, but it would take him a while to figure out what the problem might actually be.
I'm thinking about taking it back to the dealer and getting the computers flashed again, so that I know I'm starting from scratch, but I wanted to ask if anyone had any ideas what happened...why did this easy transmission work change, apparently, the programming? And does it seem like that it is actually just a programming issue?
I have been communicating with Greg and Bill, but haven't found an answer yet.
The servos require that you go back to the stock transmission pressure tables. The shift points may need to be dropped a little to help with keeping it off redline. The force motor current tables can also be manipulated to ensure proper commanded pressures.
I would try to soften the shift pressures by 10% and lower the shift rpm and speed a little at a time until you get it the way you like it. Feel free to give me a call when you have the program open and I can go over the settings that it allows.

Thanks guys....will see what I can do tomorrow/Friday.
sent you a PM, sorry for the delay I have been out of the shop at some suppliers most of the day. One other thing that came to mind since; are you sure you aren't feeling a slip in the first to second gear change then an abrupt bump when the band finnally applies? Or worse, are you feeling the trans come out of first, slide through what would be second and then bumping into third? One more thing "diagnostic" to try would be manually shifting into second at about 2500 rpm and then once in second, see if blipping the throttle induces slippage. You should also be able to run the truck up to 4000 rpm in second and let off the throttle and have engine braking. If you experience slipping in manual second or you don't have positive engine braking when you let off the throttle in manual second, it could be a sign your band is no longer holding. Keep me posted, I will help as I can.

No problem on the delay...
No, it's definitely 1st shift to second with a bump....the RPMs hold for a second or two (the harder the acceleration was, the longer the RPMs hold at 3000) then a quick soft jump to 3400 RPMs and climbs.
I will go out right now and try manual second and see what happens.

Greg
Strong kick in 2nd when blipping the throttle.
There is some engine braking when throttle released at 4000 RPM, but I'm thinking that it is much less than it used to be.....

no...I couldn't fix it by changing the programming, so I am going back tomorrow to have the original servo put back in....and we will see what happens there.

Well...putting the original servo back in did NOT fix the 2nd gear delay. The guys says there is nothing more he can do, but wanted me to call him if I found out what the problem is.

My advice: Drive it to Weatherford, TX to Greg Ducato's shop, Phoenix transmissions, and have him rebuild it for you...
It's only time and money, but it will be one sweet tranny.

That's what I did! And it is very sweet indeed.
You need a road trip anyway John.....go for it!
