Are you sure its not the Ignition Switch?

Welcome to the source of good information about your truck.Where are you located? There may be someone around you who can help. THe ignition switch is a known problem in many cases and is considerably less expensive than the roof module. Many dealers do not know this. Do not panic. Just check back frequently.

Good luck.

It looks like we have a number of members around the Chicago area so some may jump in here now that we know where you are.

Hopefully they will look at the thread and see you are nearby and jump in. This is where it helps to have the location information in your profile. Also once you begin posting and people recognize your screen name and can relate a location to it they start to treat you as a neighbor as well as family member.

As others have mentioned, the ignition switch can often be the root cause of many of the strange electrical issues in the SSR. It's worth having it checked.

If it is truly the roof/door module (RDM), then replacing it is extremely easy. It's located in the roof storage bay under the black plastic cover in the center of the front of the storage bay. The RDM is labeled as part "#1" in the first attached picture.

There are two roof/door modules (RDM):

2003/2004 RDM 15134308
2005/2006 RDM 15828426

Now there have been some that call the switch plate/module around the automatic tranny shifter (contains window switches, traction control button, door lock switch and roof switch) a "roof module". For a 2004 SSR that is P/N 15787512. That unit is made up of parts #1 through #6 in the second attached picture.

You might want to contact site members RSSRTOY or BYERS to have them check into the true availability of the part(s) your service department is trying to get a hold of for your SSR.

If all else fails, I do have in my spare parts cache, a used 2003/2004 RDM 15134308 (out of an early 2003 SSR - I tested it in my 2004 SSR and it seems to work), a new 2003/2004 RDM 15134308, a used 15787512 (removed from my 2004 SSR when I upgraded my interior to bright chrome) and a new 15787512. I'm sure it would be easier for your servicing dealer's parts department to work with RSSRTOY or BYERS directly, but I can offer my parts to you if you need them.

I hope that helps.

Here is another area that can be looked at. But this usually trips "Roof Latch" on your CID.

Picture.
1. Four bolt module, one on each side in roof compartment.
2. Remove bolts and turn module over.
3. Ten amp micro switch.
4. Switch can be lubed with WD-40 and work but I would go to Radio Shack and buy a 10amp Micro Switch for about $5.00 and replace it.

Module from Dealer is about $120.00 each and you only need the switch.

Hi,

Where in Chicago? I have a spare ignition switch I carry with me. Also, there is a qualified SSR mechanic at Crystal Lake Chevrolet, he has been through the SSR classes.

I'm not a mechanic by any means but Dicktator has me convinced to carry a spare ignition switch. He can walk you through changing it in about ten minutes.

regards,
FloRidah

I does sound like it could be ignitions switch. Everything runs through the ignition switch.

If you have one and want some help, I can walk you thru the change. Have done that for several Fanatics from PA, Mass, LA and more.
