I have an intermittent electronic whine that is affected by RPM. The sound generated reminds me of old days when the AM radio would pick up the distributor noise.
Facts:
1. I have a replacement Pioneer stereo – backup camera system installed
2. Noise will come on or go away when I hit a bump – possibility that a connection is loose.
3. The noise volume is not affected by the stereo volume; even unchanged when stereo muted.
4. Noise usually noticeable only when driving, seldom occurs when I am parked.
Objective:
Gather opinions, suggestions, troubleshooting techniques

The Doophus has had a similar WHINE for years, Bill.
Hit a bump and the whine starts, increasing and decreasing with engine RPMs.
Not every bump, just every once in awhile. Also, the whine seems to be originating from the Left Door Speaker and I still have the OEM Bose Sound System.
Quick fix . . . come to a complete stop, put the transmission into PARK just for a second and the whine stops until the next big bump.
After about three or four visits to the dealer over the last few years with the same ole, "DUH, what whine?" or "DUH, we couldn't get it to whine," I just gave up and have learned to live with the "Park Fix".
I'm definitely interested in any and all solutions you dig up.

My noise was my XM Transceiver. It was loose from its Base Connector.

Pull console cover and check Park module connections. You will see silver button on module and the connector is right there. Made need to just shake it to improve connection.
I had not considered a loose ground as the culprit. I will try to determine this weekend if coming from speaker on one side only or both sides. But first I have to get it to whine while in the driveway.
Since it occurs continuous thru a range of speeds, I doubt that the ABS is a factor. But will keep it on list to rule out later if need be.
I am still running the original Bose speakers; I only changed out the head unit and that was ~18-24 months ago.
Maybe I will go back to stereo shop and get them to fix it (besides that gives me an excuse to add the Nav system component).

Got into stop and go traffic late last week so I tried out this solution. Low and behold it worked. So this weekend I was out the whine came back, now this time I was interested in where the sound was coming from. So I (1) pulled over into a parking lot (2) put the transmission in neutral to perserve the whine (3) unlocked doors with console switch so that I could open the doors get out and put my ear up to speakers, vents, etc.
(4) DANG IT the whine stopped when I unlocked the doors.
Now this may be a better temporary solution than putting transmission into Park. I need more testing to confirm but I am driving the Scion to work this week.
Talked to our ssr mecanic. Was told it is most likly the bose amplifier as it happens all the time with vehecles with the bose systems. He said to pull the fuse for powering the amp to see it stays away.

Very interesting, Bill.
I'm gonna try the Unlock Button Fix as you're definitely correct . . . much simpler than the Park Fix.
I have had this since I put in my Pioneer head unit. I want to try a different ground but haven't had the motivation to rip it apart again. With the top down I don't hear it
